@R3aL After Bob McKenzie's final rankings came out and Sale was the big faller, I've been going back and watching every scrap of footage I can find, trying trying to make sense of it. I can definitely see the reservations people have; I and others have expressed concerns about Smith and Carlsson - cheating for offense, lacking urgency or interest off the puck - but Sale takes it to another level. I've considered mitigating circumstances for various situations, such as deferring to veteran teammates, picking his spots rather than trying to win battles against obviously stronger players, and it seemed like a point of strategy for the WJC team that Kulich and Sapovaliv would handle most of the defensive/board play and try to break Sale offensively. But as Hammer puts it, the more you're having to make excuses for a player, the more you're probably asking for trouble.

That said, from what I recall of watching him at his own age level (Hlinkas, both '22 and '23 U18s) he was a one-man show for Czechia, looking dominant despite subpar talent around him. You were always a detractor; I'm just curious what is your recollection of the discrepancies in his game across various levels (pro, U18s, U20s)?

It was similar to Moore for me in the sense My first viewings were off nights for them and it formed a bias that was hard for me to shake.

Unlike a Yager who I was lower on at the start of the year and I’ve grown to like what he offers and projects to be with the right patient path.

but for Sale when I watched him play if I didn’t know he was who I was looking out for I wouldn’t have noticed him.

I found him to not engage and kinda float.

I honestly just wasn’t impressed anytime I watched him. I had very high expectations though as Button compared him to pasta. And he stills sees him super high so I kinda just stopped watching him and just gave respect to he must see something I don’t. I’m not good at evaluating players from his path. I’ve always been wrong about them and I kinda just steer clear from having too strong of an opinion now.

I know you’ve really dived deep into him to and I respect your views.

out of all the wingers though he scares me the most more than:

1. benson

2. wood / if he doesn’t end up being a C

3. barlow

4. perreault

5. honzek

6. But

7. musty

i think Cristall is we’re I’d be unsure of in comp to sale but similar level of fear / uncertainty for me.

Looks like 4 guys they really want that could be there and then the long shot in Benson. Also heard they are interested in Simashev and Michkov, but obviously couldn't take them to dinner.

Probably a pretty good chance Canucks get one of these guys

Michkov

Benson

Willander

Simashev

Woods

Barlow

Danielson

100% agree only way we go outside of it is if we miracle trade up for Carlsson lol the PA dream like we dream of cap flex and RH defensive dmen

from one of the many mockdraft's on social media; reason why I am posting this is because the takes on the prospects are spot on

11. Vancouver Canucks — Matthew Wood, RW (UConn, HE)

Potentially lost in all the hoopla surrounding Adam Fantilli’s award-winning freshman year was Wood’s own point-a-game season for UConn. A natural playmaker with quick wits, Wood came to play every night, using his thick 6-foot-4 frame to handle defensemen four, five, sometimes six years older. Wood isn’t fast, but that’s also the case with half the guys who hit the 100-point mark in the NHL last season. He obviously makes up for it with eye-popping production in tournaments and top-scoring numbers at the NCAA level, and Hockey East is by no means a forward’s paradise. Although he played wing exclusively last season, there’s enough evidence for a potential future as a center.

Bottom line: The Canucks can’t afford to let position get in the way of rebuilding every aspect of their pipeline. Wood is a local kid with BCHL roots who has been racking up points everywhere he plays. Elite-level playmaking isn’t limited to the center position, and Wood’s got it in spades.

Surprise pick: Tom Willander, RHD (Rogle J20, Nationell) — Confusing as it may be to see the rumor mill’s subject du Jour somehow considered a shock pick at No. 11, the realities are that Willander can be a high-yield investment, but he’s also an on-ice gambler who simply didn’t do enough to overtake any of the defensemen earmarked for the top-20 all season. This could be the overdraft of the event, but the upside’s undeniable.

Kuzmenko - Petey - Wood

Mikheyev - Miller - Boeser

I like this ^^

Hughes - ?

? - Hronek

Brisebois - Myers

Hirose

...but, not crazy about this ^^

Unless Michkov or Benson falls, I think the Canucks need to draft a D. I believe they  can still find a good C by moving up to the 2nd round. Top notch Ds need to be taken high IMO.

Simashev

Reinbacher

Willander

Any one of these guys should really help down the road.

Is this the plan for the future D?

Hughes - Willander

(UFA Soucy?) - Hronek

Pettersson - Johansson

Kudryavtsev - Woo

Could be. But it could also be:

Hughes, Woo

Simashev, Hronek

D-Petey, McWard

Hirose, Johansson

The good part is this new regime is cutting out the Benning rot and making room for our younger players to compete for spots.

Here's the way I think about it. The following players are all but guaranteed to be taken in the Top 10 (in no particular order):

1.Bedard

2. Fantilli

3. Carlsson

4. Smith

5. Michkov

6. Leonard

I have no idea what will happen after this. Which puts the Canucks in a pretty good position. If the Canucks pass on Benson, I would be extremely disappointed, but not surprised. Aside from that, I wouldn't be pounding the table in disagreement if the Canucks selected any of Moore, Simashev, Reinbacher, Barlow, or Perreault. If the top 6 shakes out the way I've listed above, the Canucks are guaranteed one of those players.

I also like Wood and Danielson, but I think each of these players is just a small notch above.

Agree with all except Michkov.

Bedard

Fantili

Carlsson

Smith

Leonard

Reinbacher

These 6 are the only guaranteed selections for the top 10. Everyone else could fall out of the top 10 including Michkov.

2. Reinbacher

3. Benson

4. Simashev

5. Willander

6. Wood

7. Honzek

8. Danielsson

9. Moore

10. Barlow

I'm starting to agree, what an addition to the prospect pool/Canucks roster if they selected mysterious Matvei Michkov.

Canucks PP would be deadly

Kuzmenko - Pettersson - Michkov

Hughes - Hronek

Don't need a 2nd PP unit  :bigblush:
