Severson would be a neat addition, just don't see how it happens unless it is part of a Miller swap, NJ is capped out as well. Not sure he's what we'd want with Hughes, maybe OEL tho?

I'd be fine with a Garland for Severson swap tho, but not sure NJ wants more 'lil guys.

Sevy has a 4.1m cap hit himself.

Miller, Hoglander for Severson, Boqvist, 2nd round pick 2023, Kevin Bahl.

Ferland to LTIR. Devs send down one player.

1 year of Sevy for 1 year of Millsy

Sevy from western Canada with Kelowna ties, Miller from eastern states and rumours he wants to return. Similar aged players probably would both be very very very very happy to have 8 year deals from their new teams which they can't get on FA market. Jersey shored up their RHD, need a PWF for Jack Hughes, Canucks have over abundance of forwards, need RHD for Quinn Hughes. Boqvist has ability to play C and is OK physically, escapes hits well, decent speed - pace for 35-40 points make sense for 3c in terms of cap structure for Canucks.

There is one scenario where id want to move Hoglander, and that's as part of a package to a team to acquire a top four D before the season starts, even if it's a rental deal.   Severson would be a nice target for us.    NJ likely moves on from him ... same way we likely move on from Miller.   They've got a glut of young defenseman in the wings waiting for a shot, and some will make the team (Luke Hughes) this year.     Hamilton has a lock on their top pairing.

Our forward group is one of the deepest in the league right now.   Have a hard time finding a team we've iced other then the ones from the 90's (early mostly), with this much top 9 material.   When Hogs and 2-3 other guys could be your 13th man ... well that says something.    Not only do we have 3 centers to work around, we've also got a quite a few that can play both wings, or are a W/C... Garland plays both wings .. EP, Miller, Dickie ... and i'm going to add Podz as a possible candidate to try on C as well.    Lazar.    We are loaded.   For sure we can afford to lose one or two of these guys.    IF we start the season with another top four D... we might be the favourite to win the division going in which says a lot.

This I can buy into. If moving Hogs is what we require to get that top 4 D we so badly need, then I could buy in. But ONLY for that, since I too feel it is our only real area of weakness. But this 1 for 1 thing for players who I believe will likely be lesser players through this career just doesn't work for me.

So this came from a comment that @Googlie made on another thread and I proposed a Hoglander for Logan Stanley trade

This isn’t fantasy hockey it helps both teams.

capsize it’s neutral both are rfa at the same time as well.

so why would the jets do this.

They have quite a few defence and while Stanley is a favourite he could do with more ice time than he is getting. What the jets really need is to sort their middle 6 wingers.

they have failed to get prospects into this area and so Hoglander is both young and proven at the middle 6 level

And gives them both hustle, a few goals and reasonable defensive responsibility. All for cheap

why doea Vancouver do this

while LS is a left d he can play on the right, and he is a stay at home D, we have plenty that can go forward but he fills the need of a no nonsense physical D.

the idea of him and chaos giraffe on at the same time would make even the grittiest of forwards think twice

The proposal isn't unfair, considering Hoglander's struggles this past season, but it really doesnt make sense to move on from Hoglander. He's 21 years old, has way more upside in his tank than Stanley. People forget Hoglander scored at a 20 goal pace in his rookie season, that's pretty massive.

His shooting percentage and time on ice was lower this season than the previous year, but given a couple years development and some work defensively, he's got the potential to be a top-6 forward. He's also only got one more season on his ELC left, which means we could potentially re-sign him for a really good deal relative to his potential production.

If you really want to trade Hoglander, wait a couple seasons, get him producing 20 goals + on a cheap deal, and he'll bring in an absolute haul.

I see where you're coming from on this, its just I don't really want us getting smaller in the F group. I do like the idea of Severson tho.

I don't know much about Samberg tbh.

Personally, I'm very excited for Rathbone to be on the 3rd pairing. I think he's poised to be a contributor on the team next year after he seemed to refine all the right things in Abby last year. If the Canucks land de Haan as a partner for him, I think that would be a shrewd bottom pairing that can play all three zones - I'm still kind of dreaming of an o-zone oriented deployment bottom pairing of Rathbone - Subban but I know it's more fantasy than anything.

Even having a safe bottom pair with the mobility and skill to burn lower caliber opponents, like Rathbone probably has, would be a winner in my books.  Of course, if Jack can bring balance to the right side in a RH equivalent of himself (or with more size but less skill) I think that'd be a worthwhile trade to distribute skill throughout the pairings.

I was actually bringing up Sakic poaching Devon Toews (two seconds) as his best move to date.    They were also cash strapped and had to unload someone... NJ is in a similar situation next season. they can't afford Severson...someone has to go, they need guys on cheap deals (too)...

This is more about our team adding Severson and going for it this season while we still have Miller.   Just an idea.   And Hogs plus a second would actually be a better deal for NJ then Devon Toews got.   Sure we'd need to dump a bit more cap (Pearson?, surely someone would take him ...) ... 6'2" could be this teams version of Hamhuis but on the right side, or if it works out, QHs partner.   Then the team re-signs him or Miller or trades one (or both) depending on how things work out.   Schmidt was traded twice for a cheap return ... and was/is considered a top four D..and NJ won't keep Severson with Hamilton on their roster plus what's coming up both pay wise and in their system.     If it's a one for one trade with Miller i'm not sure that's even possible for them cap wise for NJ (re-signing Miller).   If not Hogs then maybe they'd be interested in Rathbone ... it's tough to see him on this team ... he's NHL ready and could be pretty decent, but as a third pairing LHD behind QHs...well like Burke said "that's some small bodies gentleman" ... too bad he's not a RHD.
