[Signing] Hurricanes sign Paul Stastny

Recommended Posts

IMO it was better when we knew very little about the personal lives of players.

Now people are much too eager to hate on a player for anything they personally don't agree with.

I think this mentality doesn't help attract player to sign in Canadian markets.

Just, exactly, what mandate are you talking about?

Yeah good question! I was referring to the vaccination requirement for truckers crossing the border between Canada and the US. But really it could apply to any vaccine requirement that impacts someones ability to be employed. I dont know that it's the governments place to make those decisions for people.

I'm very pro vaccine but also wary of government intervention. Government doesn't have a great track record when it comes to making medical decisions for people and I wouldn't want to normalize that again in our culture (see Indian Hospitals and forced sterilization)

it doesn't? In Canada we're all living longer, healthier lives than at any time in history.

That is true for every industrialized nation. That would be thanks to private innovation in technology and biotechnology sectors. The government really has nothing to do with that. And arguably the government in a socialist country has even less to do with that.

Anyway, I don't want to be that guy that perpetuates a hockey forum post becoming a political post! The point I was eventually going to make was that I could see how the Stastny family would be wary of government overreach when Grandpa Stastny came from an authoritarian communist country. It's very real for some people. The world is not so black and white. Its worthwhile trying to see why someone would act in a way you disagree with.

There were ways to express disagreement without funding a terrorist group led by neo-Nazis.  There's simply no excuse for Stastny and he certainly isn't someone I'd want to share a locker room with.

"government overreach" is US paranoia, sad to see it leak up here.

I don't think it's healthy to label everyone who disagrees with you a Neo-Nazi. That's very black and white thinking. Only a Sith deals in absolutes..

You help develop medical devices to be sold on the market. Successful capitalism drives your innovation, government funding would be a small small part of that.

But that's interesting. And we clearly see the world differently. I really like talking to people with different views. If you feel like it, we could continue on private messenger so we dont pollute the boards with our nonsense?

What else would you call Pat King, Tamra Lich, Chris Barber other than Neo-Nazis?  I don't think it's healthy to make excuses for players who willingly donate to fund these bigots.  These aren't "everyone who disagrees", these are openly racist pieces of garbage.  Stasnty may not be a racist himself, but he has such poor character that he has no issue supporting them.  Carolina can enjoy having this scumbag on their team.

Thats actually quite wrong. Gov't has been a partner in western health tech for decades. The US FDA, e.g., is an indispensable partner in medical innovation. Health Canada has been instrumental in a number of innovations, particularly when they took over from the Red Cross on blood, e.g.

Not to be disrespectful but you are way off on this idea.

Bro, you're the guy who constantly tells people they're pieces of garbage and they don't play like "real men" .  You're the most misogynistic person in here hahaha

Shocker the off-topic forum got shut down :bigblush:

Government regulatory bodies are certainly important partners! But they are not the drivers of innovation, which is what we are talking about. The FDA etc. may speed or slow an innovation based on need, but you know they are not creating anything. They are important and I'm glad they exist.

But yeah, I would come sit at the adults table. Hilarious name, I love it. ...what is it?

I've heard multiple reports of those freedom convoy ppl harrassing anyone with a mask... Now imagine if you and your kids just happened to be walking by and preferred to have masks on!! It's also ppl's freedom to keep masks on and remain safe from bullying right?

The freedom convoy wasn't violent.. A few "followers" followed for the wrong reasons and terrorized others, but they're a just a few bad apples.

To me, blaming the entire convoy for a few idiots actions is like blaming the city of Vancouver for the 2011 riot. It's just a few idiots, not the city as a whole.

I for one did not agree with the convoy at all, but they have their right to protest something they don't agree with. I'm sure Stastny felt the same way as those so he showed his support by donating. Who cares.. For some of you to say he was funding domestic terrorism need to look for a career as a reporter, because yall are really good at spreading false narratives!
