I'm on the bus amigo... think you know that.

Now lets win some flipping games :towel:

I'm catching a bus for the first time in a decade. Things have changed...

Gonna be having a few drinks and one of them will be to celebrate JT's new deal!

(also one for Joshua, Mikheyev, Kuzmenko, Boeser, Martin, Lazar, ...)

Don't disagree with us drafting a Dman, but think we can agree Dmen takes time to develop, and that's were the problem of drafting a Dman comes into play.

I wanted us to draft a d-Man at the last draft Lien Bischel, who was drafted 3 spots after Lekkerimaki... Not because I don't think Lekkerimaki will be a great player (or at least hope he will) but for the exact reason you just mentioned.

Management has extended J T Miller, which is great, but also by that chosen the way forward. And by the time we have a RHD ready to compete and play like a proper top 2-3 Dman Miller will be on latter parts of his deal.

I think they want to compete now and not wait another 4-5 years to get a top RHD (a Top RHD that can defend better than Hughes, will take more than 3 years to develop)... which is why folks have been thinking trade is the way forward.

I always thought Miller was too 'old' to ring in a top RHD like Dobson (said it numerous times, that I thought folks would be disappointed with the return), and if Miller couldn't bring him in none of our wingers can neither. Thus we are looking further down the line like Severson, Marino etc...

And that is ok. Nobody has everything... Management has, as far as I can see, set up us to run with the horses, we have now.

Yup; and run these horses will

In camp, at the young stars tourney, they will run together, and against each other, and against Calgary, Winnipeg, and Edmonton's young stars, and against the teams we play in exhibition, like the Sharts,

and they will all be running as hard as they can, because, now, they can see the Golden Chalice that awaits them by making an NHL team and doing well in an NHL career;

they can look at JT Miller, his career, his earnings, his family, his hard work and his successes.

And they can see themselves running with JT and Bo and Petey and Quinn Freakin' Hughes, OEL, Podkolzin, Thatcher (don't call me Bubble) Demko, coached by The Bruce to perform their best and (dream a little) dream about actually Winning The Stanley Cup.

No Juolevi snow angels this year; of that I can assure you Double Naught 7!

I know you are a die-hard fan (even if you are bobbin' 'roun' on the briny).

JR & Co are going to sort the D out before the puck drops on the regular season; count on it Bud.

They're all in and so are we!

Defensive defencemen are really underappreciated on here.

Defensive dman are really hard to value.

Just use Willie Mitchell as an example. Is he better than Boeser? How about Kesler?

Would you take Mitchell over Tofolli?

I don't need an answer the point is it isn't an apples to apples comparison.

I value goalies above all and d second, centers third and wingers are a dime a dozen.

I simply find it hard to compare a valuable, boring, steady stay at home dman.

My personal favorite was Sami Salo.

I don't think it was a strategy as much as it was a decision based on what had unfolded. Over time, I'm sure it changed as the landscape became clearer.

The deals that they would be ok with weren't there. So, had they been?....likely would've been done. But they weren't, so that was where they had to make the decision. Not that it was made before that. It also likely factored in to the other side, as they saw that teams weren't offering up what they might've expected. So that brought things closer together.

The choice was basically do we let him go for less than what we feel he's worth? And they said no and then decided to try to get a deal done and perhaps move off their line in the sand to compromise. They showed, for me, flexibility and good decision making based on the information they gathered. I don't think they slow played the negotiations as much as they had that line drawn at what they would consider. Then moved forward from that because those deals didn't materialize.

I mostly agree with this. I think they were certainly listening to offers early on and would have accepted a trade if the value was too good to refuse. I just think a re-sign was always Plan A, unless something came along that was simply too good to pass up. But from their public messaging, and the bits and pieces I could pick up from the grapevine, I think an extension was management’s preference and main focus over the summer, and probably going back a lot further than that, based on whatever determinations were made through their strategic planning and reviews.

Ha totally.

I find "window" is an excuse. It puts bookends on a time frame.

It's hilarious given a decade of sucking "entering a window". Like come on, just don't suck.

And what happens if we don’t win during our “window” just stop trying I guess haha

I was listening to SN650 yesterday and one guy asked a pretty good question.  When the Pens were wining their cups with Rutherford, other than Chris Latang, can you name me another defenceman from that team?  Nobody could answer.  I had to look it up..  Point being made is maybe we only need Quinn Hughes and we can fill the rest of the D corps with solid defence first minded stay at homes.  Rutherford had 3 strong centres in Crosby, Malkin and Stall.  Looking around the league and if some of our new players hit, I’d match up the Canucks top 9 against any team in the NHL.   It looks to me like JR is following the same blueprint that was successful for the Pens.

Cheers... suggested the same earlier to a question of whether a team in the modern era had won won cup with an average D...

I think we look a lot like the Pens team... without Crosby obviously, but they con't come along often, so...
