To: New Jersey -- Garland

To: Van  -- Severson

Garland, $5mil friendly cap / 4 years left and plays consistently.

Severson, $4.66 mil.  second/first pair R HD.

-- of course need resign Severson, maybe $6 mil x 6 years?

I think this has been a rumour or suggestion for some time, and not quite sure how the deal would work.

Would VAN have to add? Top 4 RDs in their prime aren't cheap.

Also, would Severson re-sign in VAN after this season, and how much would he want? He's on the last year of his deal, like Bo.

Probably looking more at something like Garland/Rathbone for Severson/3rd.

This would certainly address a huge hole for this season, but as you mentioned, what would Severson's next contract look like?

Severson has BC roots...his cap hit is also 4.16 ... He's a great target for us.  He's also buried behind Hamilton and Marino is going to take over his spot given ages and cap hits.

Maybe we do something different, but i'm fully expecting that this is the most obvious route forward.   And don't think he's going to cost us that much to acquire either.

i think we are better off making a cap dump trade next year and signing severson as an FA. most likely outcome here is NJD either keeps him for the season and lets him walk, or they trade at the TDL to a contender if they miss the playoffs. good chance they contender then lets him walk at FA as well. Canucks can be in the mix at that point, maybe trade a mid round pick for his UFA rights to make sure you can seal the deal

also heard calgary want to move valimaki.

I feel greasy after viewing Flamps fans and NHL sites to learn about this guy.

Valimaki has a certain amount of pedigree as a first round pick, 25 yr old, LD, 6'2" 212lb guy who has lost a couple years to injuries.

He gets $1,550,000 this year as the last year on his contract.

I can see why Calgary would like to get away from that cap (every team does) but also they have lots of D on both sides.

Dealing with the devil makes me really queasy, but he may fit in to our #2 or #3 LD, which could open up if we move OEL to RD for example.

So, I'm greasy, and queasy, and wondering how we could get a D that might fit in, without selling our soul.

Maybe part of a multi-asset deal, oh my, it just gets worse...

I need another beer.. and a shower!

Looking at the Devils, they only have 1 player listed as a RW and 7 LW.  They have Hamilton, Marino, and Severson .  Canucks have 5 players listed as RW.

NJ also has Nemec who won't be long.  This leaves Reilly Walsh available.

It makes too much sense for these teams to work a deal.

Garland, Rathbone, 3rd

Severson, Walsh

To me this would be fine as long is it's trade and sign ... as a rental he's not worth Garland.    Maybe what Toews got, a couple later seconds.
