Popular Post CRAZY_4_NAZZY
With the tournament arriving in little over a week from now I thought I would get one going. Man I am excited for Canucks hockey again. This is the schedule according to Canucks Army: https://canucksarmy.com/2022/06/23/canucks-release-schedule-for-2022-young-stars-classic-in-penticton/ I've seen more and more rosters come out for other prospect tournaments for teams. Will be interesting to see who is invited. Historically, the Canucks have mainly invited out prospects who either played in the CHL, the AHL, ECHL, and free agent signings. NCAA rules suggest that any form of games with an NHL club (even a prospect tournament is considered as a pro level game) will lead to college players losing their eligibility to play in the NCAA and scholarships. The likes of Gardner, Truscott, Dorrington, McDonough, Koskenvuo, Malone, and Kunz will be unavailable for the tourney. Additionally, with European leagues already midway/towards the end of their own preseasons, I don't think the Canucks will invite their European prospects over. Makes no sense to get them to travel for a 3 game tournament and take them out of their own rhythm of play across seas with their clubs. So I don't think Lekkerimaki, Forsell, Pettersson, Myrenberg, Gabrielsson, Persson, Jurmo, Zlodeev, and Costmar will be joining the team either. Even based on past rules if I recall correctly, the young stars tourney had rules regarding games played for prospects in the AHL/ECHL level. I can't remember the number but I think it was somewhere between 75-100 pro games led to not being eligible as well. Which puts into questions whether we see the likes of Woo, Rathbone, Focht, and/or Lockwood at this tourney. They haven't played 100 pro games as of yet but all four have played a considerable amount of AHL/NHL games already. Perhaps they leave them off the roster to focus on main camp preparation. Based on the Canucks summer development camp and prospects who have seen very little pro games I expect this group to be part of the mix along with a lot of NCAA/college free agents, CHL free agents, and others. I think of guys like Jack Jensen, Jacob Bauer, Max Namestnikov, Jackson Van Leest, and Ian Murphy as potential additions to the roster These are who I speculate would be at the tournament along with other free agent prospects. Quote The Canucks’ team this September will likely feature the likes of newly-signed Linus Karlsson and some younger players from Abbotsford, Smyl said. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/canucks-leaning-on-the-familiar-in-2022-revival-of-young-stars-classic Bains-Aman-Klimovich Nielsen-Lockhart-Karlsson Plasek-Wouters-Gatcomb Nychuk-Kannok-Leipert Schmiemann-Kudryavtsev Silovs Young Edited September 7, 2022 by CRAZY_4_NAZZY 2 8
Petey Castiglione
Thanks @CRAZY_4_NAZZY for the thread! Happy that we've returned to the old format of Canucks, Oilers, Flames & Jets and our first taste of Canucks hockey! Players I'm excited to get a look at; Bains - Speedster who had a good prospects camp. By all accounts he has good skills and practices like a pro. Will be good to see how he stacks up against other clubs prospects to get a better idea of his level of play. Karlsson - Hoping he looks too good for the tourney as he's been playing pro already. Hopefully he can spend some time playing C as we're thin in that position for the farm. In reality he'll be sent to down for the season but he could work his way into main camp. Klimovich - Still so young with raw skills. Hoping his offseason training has been fruitful and continues an upward trajectory. He has to show he can earn his spot and play most of the 72 games down in Abby. Good thing we can be patient with him. Defensemen, not holding my breath but hoping we have some surprises at main camp. 1 more week, everyone!!!
GB5
The way things are the Canucks will be unable to ice all of their best prospects but it is still hockey.... game on!! Curious to see if there are any interesting unsigned players they can add for the tourney just for a look.

Goal:thecup
STINGRAYS SIGN TWO-TIME NCAA CHAMPION MATT ANDERSON 05 Apr 2022 NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Washington Capitals and AHL’s Hershey Bears, announced the signing of defenseman Matt Anderson today. Anderson, 22, spent the last five seasons at the University of Minnesota – Duluth where he recorded 28 points (three goals, 25 assists) in 181 games played. EP Phone Home
I see Lekkermäki on the list of players that @CRAZY_4_NAZZY posted but was this for development camp or is this for the tournament? I am stoked if he’s going to be in Penticton next weekend but I was sure he was playing pre-season in Sweden for his upcoming campaign. Would love to see our blue chipper in action if this is indeed true.

There are at least 21 players from that camp that won't be in Penticton including Lekkermaki, McDonough, and Jacob Truscott. Almost all the NCAA guys and European players will not be there. 1

Yeah I thought it was from the development camp after the draft and not the updated roster for next weekends tournament. Thanks for clarifying. Should still have some good names to watch and it’ll be great to have hockey back beginning with the baby Nucks. Cheers Podz
Psycho_Path
NCAA players are fine to come if they pay their own way IIRC. Don't recall how frequently this has happened in the past for us. Not sure if their school years have started yet either.

EP Phone Home
Question here: For as many years this has been happening, I don’t recall there ever being a YoungStars Cup or title for the best team in the standings. I know it’s for all purposes a development camp before main camp. Would give the teams/players a bit more incentive to win the tournament if there was a cup or title. Making the main roster would be the biggest incentive to do well in the young stars but the winner must have something to showcase that their team is the best of the bunch no? Bring on the Penticton/Young Stars Cup I say! Edited September 12, 2022 by EP Phone Home
Ghostsof1915
Because it's not soccer where you win titles that don't count for anything.
