-AJ-
We've had these in most seasons past and I thought it would be neat to create another thread. Place your predictions about the 2022-23 NHL season here and be judged and mocked forever when you're horribly wrong! The thread will lock just prior the first game of the season for the Canucks on October 11. I'll try to unlock it after the season is over so we can reflect on our predictions. Feel free to post predictions about the Canucks, other teams, players, or the league as a whole.
Devron
Canucks make the playoffs, 3rd in the division Demko is nominated for the Vezina Petey hits the 80 point mark Boeser returns to goal scoring fashion w/30+
-AJ-
I want to predict the stats of our players, but there's so much in flux--especially the fight for forward positions on the 3rd and 4th lines. Defense is more known, but the bottom pairing is still pretty uncertain. NHL Predictions: - Makar will be the first defender in over 20 years to 100+ points and win the Norris again. - Vegas collapses, finishing 6th or 7th in the Pacific - Seattle improves, finishing 6th or 7th in the Pacific - The Sharks finish 8th in the Pacific - Matty Beniers wins the Calder trophy - Jacob Markstrom wins the Vezina trophy Canuck Stats: Notes: Players - Miller regresses, but is still our best forward - Petey takes a step forward, but still isn't the crazy dominant forward at all times we want him to be - Hughes takes another step forward and finishes top 10 in Norris voting. Huge part of our defensive play. - Boeser has a minor bounce back year - Horvat scores 30+ again - Kuzmenko is a hit, scoring 48 points; fans love him and he loves Vancouver - Garland remains steady and fills a playmaking role, though also has some injuries - Podkolzin takes a big step forward, being a scoring threat in our top six - OEL can't score, but has a good number of assists - Mikheyev's offense isn't what it was in his last year in Toronto, but his defense is reliable - Hoglander improves slightly, but not by much--he spends the year being used as a grinder. A healthy scratch once or twice and also injured - Pearson regresses again, similar to 2020-21. He also has significant injury troubles. - Lazar thrives in Vancouver in a 4th line role - Aman is a great energy forward, but doesn't put up many points - Schenn is still great, but not as good as 2021-22 - Dermott moves from 4-7 on the defensive lineup. Also starts the season injured (already known). - Rathbone shows some good flashes, but isn't consistent enough to hold his NHL job - Burroughs isn't as good as last year, but plays more games due to injuries on d-core. - Poolman tries to play games, but headaches return and he misses much of the year - Demko finishes 5th in Vezina voting - Martin isn't as good as Demko or in the 2021-22 season, but is a solid backup Team - Team goes 44-29-9 for 97 points, finishing 4th in the division - Canucks bring the Oilers or Flames (whichever is 2nd) to 7 games in round 1, but lose - Team scores 256 goals (246 scored in 2021-22). Defense is slightly worse than 2021-22. - Slight improvements to the team all around, offense, and special teams. PK is substantially better. Team feels worse because it is not as good as post-Boudreau 2021-22, but still far better than Green 2021-22, so is more "average" throughout the entire year.
shiznak
- Vancouver secure the last wildcard spot, gets knocked out in 5 games by Colorado. - McDavid reaches the 150 plateau, wins Hart. - Makar breaks the 100 points mark, wins Norris. - Matthews scores 60 goals again, wins Selke. - Crosby plays a full season, scores 110+ points and is a Hart nominee. - Ovechkin doesn’t break the 35 goal mark. - Calgary wins Pacific division, Markstrom wins Vezina. - Ottawa and Columbus makes the playoffs. - Boston and Washington misses the playoffs. Nuxfanabroad
For corrupt reasons, the Laffs will come out flying, being in the league's top-3(overall), right up to Feb. Defense is slightly better than 2021-22. - Slight improvements to the team all around, offense, defense, and special teams. PK is substantially better. I honestly think this is bang on and what I've been thinking going into next season, but with the hope of a bit more offence. I think Miller gets around 85-90ish points and a lot of those skaters hit 20 goals with 30 goals from Petey, Horvat and Boeser.
Wise Guy
Leafs make the playoffs and suffer an unexpected first round exit. Sorry, it's the only thing I'm sure of. 1
IBatch
I predict someone wins the cup. And it's not us. Now that ive got that out if the way. AJs above predictions sound about right! But i'm a homer. Think we've got a tough initial schedule. And that despite that, the team has a long enough memory to know what is needed, and ends up with 108 points. One of our better all-time seasons even with the loser points taken off. One of our top 9 exceeds expectations, i'm going to say that guy is Podz. EP and Miller both get more then 80 points. Brock gets 60 and scores 30 for the first time. Also think we have 9 guys with 15-35 goals. And end up with 270 overall. Awfully close to the peak Sedin years and the WCE era's most offense. Odd.
Kuzmenko has a 70 point campaign Petey breakouts for a 90+ point effort. Miller regresses in terms of points, gets 65–70 points. Podkolzin with 20-20-40 point season. Hughes puts up another 65-70 point season, including 10 goals. Horvat, Boeser, Garland all get around 45-60 points. OEL scores 15 goals from the backend. Demko a Vezina finalist Edited September 27, 2022 by Odd. MarnersHair
McDavid & Mathew’s battle it out for Rocket. - McDavid hasn’t scored 50+ goals yet - Matthews I think has another 50+ goal season Patrick Kane gets 100 points. - 70 assists & 30 goals. Give or take. Bo Horvat scores 70+ & nominated for Lady Byng trophy. Miller scores 100+ , MVP nomination & scores 40+. Pettersson will score 80 points. Leon Draisaitl leads league with 120+ points. Wins MVP. - 50 goals & 70 assists. Give or take. Oilers are out on a mission this year, I think they dominate. Even with the joke of d core they have. I think fLames will fall flat & be sellers come trade deadline. Canucks will sniff the playoffs. I don’t know which team but I gotta feeling we will see a Cinderella type run by an unexpected team. Stars, red wings? Sens?

Yeah, I love the prediction for us, but you can tell the stats are giving some weird answers when no team hits 110 points on the year and only two teams are below 70 points. Also, Boston winning the President's Trophy feels kind of absurd.
Jimmy James
LA finishing behind Seattle is a bit suspect Arizona finishing behind the Blackhawks sounds weird, they are not the same team as last season. lotsa ?’s on that list
