Bo won't go and he'll keep the C.

I don't expect they'll change the main crew. Who were the alternates last year? Pretty sure Miller and OEL were for sure. Sutter probably technically had it, but he never played. I think Myers was probably the third alternate and I doubt they'll change that.

If we did have to pick a fourth one, Petey is probably the choice. Others like Boeser and Hughes aren't horrible choices either and they might get letters at some point in their career. There are also less skilled players who are just experienced, but are probably leaders in the locker room and won't get official letters, like Schenn or Pearson.

Who really knows, what's happening in the locker room.

Maybe instead, the question should be this.   If nobody had a letter the last couple years, who deserves it the most?

Horvat at the time, was just the best choice at the time.   MTL gave it to Weber and rightly so when he came in.  And seem to be going off script given the great leaders they've had in the past. Same as Horvat but i don't have any internal feel for it.   I'm not a proponent of just taking the highest point producer and making them the C (and would have preferred Jovo or maybe even Ohlund over Naslund)....Almo is a perfect example, just did his thing, and wanted his big payday which he got.   Naslund wasn't that at least.

We were always going to get to this crossroads.   Miller absolutely is the best player unless we want to go full Luongo which. sorry Demko, you are not Luongo and we've already done that once and it although cute at the time was a failed experiment.   Taking Horvats C away from him is a bad look..BUT and this is the BUT, Bruce calls him the leader of this team (Miller)  and has been singing his praises all off season.    I don't really care either way.   OEL or Myers can wear an A too.  Don't think that matters whatsoever.    Whichever vet means the most to the locker room.

Orr was of course the best player in the planet while he played ... but wasn't ever a Captain.   Not even in international play that was Espo and then Clarke.   Maybe Miller is that guy.   Or EP.

But and this is the but.  If nobody had a letter the last three seasons, and be real here, the guy who'd we'd vote in as our Captain would be Miller.    Wouldn't it be?  217 points in 202 games ... 40 or so ahead of EP.   And he's obviously a leader too.

Im going to bet Horvat stays as the C.  Because we will re-sign him.   And well, we have a great leadership group.

Not this season, but soon, Podkolzin will get an "A"

Larianov named him captain of his junior nationals, clearly being groomed for full team captaincy.  He even compared him to a young Messier.

So, endorsement coming soon, .........

In the long run, Podz definitely seems like the kind of guy that would become an incredible leader.

That was my thought. Why add pressure to Petey or Hughes? They are young and should grow naturally into the roles rather thrust in while working towards their full potential. Give that responsibility to the veterans.

Agree - for now.    If the Canucks falter again this season and they end-up getting rid of Bo - in an effort to change the leadership and country-club culture in the locker room that this team has been so well known for - for many years, then this can be re-evaluated.

Who do you guys like for the captaincy committee this year and into the future? If Bo stays, I like:

C: Bo Horvat

A: OEL

A: Miller

A: Petey

If Bo goes, I like:

C: Miller

A: OEL

A: Petey

A: Hughes

There's an unsung hero which we know nothing about.

Some plug who means a lot to the team that will get an A over Petey.

If Podz really does have those leadership attributes, why would his coach compare him to one of the worst leaders of all time?

Larianov was contemperaneous with Messier in his glory Ranger days. --  fans here excoriate him for his Vancouver captaincy.  When he led the Rangers to their Stanleg Cup he was lauded as one of the all-time great captains.  Canucks fans hatred for him has poisoned their memories of that.

I'm well aware of Messier's legacy. The fact of the matter is if you're considered one of the greatest leaders of all time but have a 3 year blip of horrendous leadership, you no longer deserve that title. Just like if you had some savant Napoleonic/Alexander the Great level general with an immaculate record of victories spend 3 years of getting consistently routed, defeated and blown out by his enemies in engagement after engagement, he is now necessarily precluded from being considered one of the greatest commanders of all time. You can't pull what Messier did and still be considered the best leader ever.
