Schnieder is top pair? Don’t think so. Learn to play the left side then. Regardless refusing to go to camp is a bad look for any young player. Ask for a trade, don’t make public demands though. Canucks_fo_life
How do you give up a 1st for this guy? Well, two anyway. With Schneider a potential future one. I'm both glad we didn't pay that price, and still find it funny how much some folks are undervaluing him. 1

Kubrick
What a steal for NYR. Gotta think they’ll use at 1st at the deadline for a push in the playoffs.
BlastPast
This is about what I thought he would go for. Anyone who thought he was going to be traded for just a mid-round pick is delusional.

Mid round pick no, but nobody saw a 1st for a player demanding a trade, A 2nd or a decent young player maybe.
MeanSeanBean
This is what I've been saying all along. Nils still has a ton of value around the league. Still a legit prospect with top 4 upside. 3
RWJC
this could be a great pairing with Heiskanen: Lundkvist, 22, had requested a trade from the Rangers, a trade request that received significant media coverage in recent days. Because the Rangers’ defense features five players (Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba, Ryan Lindgren, K’Andre Miller, and Braden Schneider) who are either currently established long-term pieces or on the path to that status, Lundkvist felt that he would not have any chance to earn a top-four spot with power play time in New York. It’s that locked-out feeling that inspired this trade request rather than any animosity towards the organization, and now Lundkvist heads to a team that features a defensive group that’s a bit less set in stone. On paper, it looks like this acquisition is part of the Stars’ attempt to make up for the loss of John Klingberg. The team signed defenseman Colin Miller to a two-year, $1.85MM deal this summer, and as of now thanks to that deal he has the inside track on winning Klingberg’s old job on the team’s second pairing next to Esa Lindell. But now Miller has Lundkvist to compete with for that role, and since the Stars surrendered a quality asset to acquire Lundkvist, Miller’s early grip on that second-pairing job might not be as strong as it once looked to be. Additionally, the team signed defenseman Will Butcher to a contract earlier this summer, and it seemed at the time that Butcher would be Miller’s primary competition for that role as the team’s go-to offensive blueliner. With this trade, Butcher’s status in the team’s blueline mix is more uncertain. One other lineup factor at play here is the presence of Miro Heiskanen. Heiskanen’s mastery of the defensive side of the game could make him the preferred partner for Lundkvist, whose game has a more offensive bent. Additionally, a Lundkvist-Heiskanen pairing would allow Heiskanen to move to the left side, which he could prefer. This is not a cheap addition for the Stars, but it’s a clear indication that the team has faith that Lundkvist will be every bit of the dynamic offensive force at the NHL level that he looked to be in the SHL. With Klingberg gone, the Stars need to find a way to replace the offense he brought to their blueline, and Lundkvist currently represents their highest-upside chance at doing so. I think they’re banking on that first being a late one. Im not convinced. I could see this turning out badly for the stars.

Iron Man
Reminds me of Griffin Reinhart to Edm. This could bite Dallas in the butt. 1
rekker
At a glance, a first seems like a bit much. But really, he's what you would expect your late first to turn into. Good trade for both sides. If he was 6'3", physical type dman, I would of wanted him here. 1
DeNiro
Hughes Schenn OEL Lundqvist Rathbone Myers Only way a Lundqvist trade would have made sense for us. Thats a tiny D core. I don’t care how mobile they are you just don’t win with that many guys under 6 feet on D.

Far from guaranteed it will be. When the dust is settled maybe it will look like a steal like the Miller trade. I’m not convinced of Lundqvists upside yet though, or Dallas as a team for that matter.

NYR is one of the few teams in the league loaded down the right side, it baffles me that people see Lundqvist asking out so that he'd have a better opportunity elsewhere as some sort of black mark on his character. He was never going to get powerplay time ahead of Fox and Trouba in New York. The Rangers seem to like Schneider better as a third pairing option. What's he gonna do? Languish in the minors forever? Pro careers are fleeting, sometimes you've gotta look out for yourself. People like to dump on players for asking out but realistically they're looking out for their best interests the way most people do. Only difference is he's got the potential to make a helluva lot more than the rest of us. Edited September 20, 2022 by Coconuts
