You certainly wouldn't want a line of Petey with Kuzmenko and Hogs playing shutdown. But the Lazar line and the Horvat line would be very solid defensively and the Miller line (strength vs strength) would be pretty good at shutdown. And Petey is a very good two-way player. Hogs and Kuzmenko both have question marks regarding defence but we can reasonably hope that Hogz has improved his defensive game and that Kuz will be okay defensively once he adjusts to the NHL. No guarantees but Petey with Hogz and Kuzmenko could be excellent if their combined D is adequate. But I agree that it would be safer to put Podkolzin with Petey and Kuzmenko. But Podz has looked very good with Horvat. and with Miller as well.. I can see Petey with Kuz and Pods. That would be very dangerous. Pods and Petey were developing some chemistry late last season. Miller I like with Kuz and someone familiar like Pearson. Everyone has someone good on the boards to dig, you have a scorer on all 3 lines going down our spine and a lot of our wingers like Kuz and Garland are good passers. 3 lines that have a little of everything. Kuzmenko - Miller - Pearson Garland - Petey - Podkolzin Hoglander - Horvat - Mikheyev.

My fear is that they get caught on a shift and then the opposing team gets their top line out and hem them in on the defensive zone and they can't get the puck back. But who knows. I never thought petey and hughes would play pk either. Podz is great because he is so versatile. What a stud.

CanucksJay
Is Gatcomb 84? Was watching the highlights and he looked good. Also that klimovich turnover that led to a goal. Looked like he got tripped. Stick was in his skates. The shots differential and score were terrible but the highlights looked like our B team produced more chances than our A team last night including a Brains breakaway

Concerned about along the boards offensively and defensively when the play gets gritty I've said before, put Podkolzin with Petey and Hogz. VP will take care of a lot of the board work and stand up for his mates. Hogz has grit too. 1
kpopct25
Kinda unrelated but also somewhat related, saw on Canucks PR Twitter that they're practising at UBC tomorrow. Anyone know if this is open to the public?

Petey is a great 2 way player as well but lacks the weighty to muscle ppl off the puck so having Podz would be great. They can then have someone skilled as the 3rd forward whether it be Kuz, Hogz etc.

Pure961089
Although I like Garland and Petey together with Pods, for this reason https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/canucks-hockey/nils-hoglander-deserves-more-respect-5865185 I think I’d have Hoglander play with Pods and Petey. Than would give Horvat a great digger and puck distributor in Garland. Hoglander’s underlying numbers are just too good. Bruce isn’t much of an analytics guy but he needs to see the underlying things Hogs brings to our team. I remember Crawford trying to find the right fit for the Sedins for years. Finally after years of searching they found their guy. A 4th line plugger named Alex Burrows. Bruce, this is for you. It’s not always the points a player brings, Hoglander may never be a top producer of numbers but what he will do in generate chances for Petey and Pods for as long as he gets to play with them. He has a knack of stripping players off the puck and intercepting passes much like Petey that way. He’s also very strong on his skates and wins a lot of puck battles on the boards, much like Garland that way. Miller with Kuzy and Pearson Petey with Hogs and Podz Horvat with Garland and Mikheyev I like those lines too. Even before the Boeser injury I liked Petey and Pods together. They so remind me of a blooming and talent not yet realized Naslund and Bertuzzi. Bruce, keep these 2 together. Was looking great in the youngstars tourney before basically getting benched or whatever during the 2nd period of his 2nd game He's just a young guy and they knew they were going to send him back to jr anyway. I agree, he is looking like a fine prospect; great anticipation, ahead of several pros on the ice.

Kinda hard to do with the new addition but at least try to give Miller one player he’s used to playing with. Boeser is hurt though and I never said move pearson
