Eddie
Trying to pull what positivity I can out of that total dog shite performance. Bo and JT never seems to show up in the preseason the way they do in the regular - and it rarely hurts them - good to see Petey who seems to be one of those guys who's form follows him, probably due to playing a less physical / energy game, doing well even if he didn't play last night. It is 'just preseason' and i would be less troubled by the results if we didn't have at least 5 games in the regular season where they play the same way. Like they can't be bothered to show up - thats 10 - 15 points gone. Consistency is a bit problem for this team and would love to see better effort, even in in preseason. Other marginal positives : The new look 4th line looks a helluva lot better than we anything we have seen sine the Lappy glory days. Great to see a line with identity and physical power for a change there. All 3 forwards looked engages - even Dicko. Demmer continues to look sharp and dialled in. That's basically it - Offence didn't show up at all and the D mostly felt like projectile vomit straight to the eyes... my god, Poolman looks awful against any kind of pace, he needs to play every game remaining to make sure he is match ready, and FYI i didn't even hate the singing when it happened ! Rathbone looks great on the puck but man does he throw a good pizza, and other gaffferoo - hopefully won't end up as Sbisa 2.0, but still a bit concerned. Guest
I wonder if Poolman gets cut and sent down to Abby. Poolman needs a lot of reps and 10 games in Abby might be what the doctor ordered. We are risking that one of 5 teams that has room left will take him. I think there's a very strong chance that he goes unclaimed because of the three years left on his term. If he was in the last year of his contract someone like Arizona would grab him and flip him for picks at the deadline.

I’m thinking we tried to move: Dicky, Garland, Poolman

Time to get down to business. The Canucks need to play like a well-oiled machine right off the bat, can't take any games for granted. Everyone needs to be on the same page and I'm concerned they'll be rusty playmaking with line mates when the games matter. Pettersson can't take half a season again warming up and getting comfortable. The main roster should be playing together. I'm almost expecting a slow start on the road for their first 5 games. I’d love Kalynuk to get one more game. He’s been one of our best LHD in camp. He had 9 points on 21 games including 4 goals 2 seasons ago. Also disappointed to see Brisebois not getting any games at all. He looked promising a few years ago and hasn’t been given a proper chance IMO. His skating and his hockey IQ were something that was raved about. Edited October 3, 2022 by Odd.

Remember these names? Sautner, Rafferty, Chatfield.... etc they are names on the waiver wire. I'm not faming forwards, they had their moments in the history of the Canucks but never made it. WADR, those guys weren’t drafted by us, they were long shots. Brisebois was a former 3rd rounder who had quite a lot of promise.

Would have much preferred to give Breezer a long look last year instead of allowing Hunt to disgrace the franchise with his outright refusal to stop playing like trash in his own zone.

Zalewsky too. I thought for sure but no.

I agree that Poolman should play in Abby until he can show he is good enough to warrant another try at the NHL. I think it is very unlikely that he get claimed on waivers. If we was claimed that would help the Canucks as he is not worth his cap hit. It is a bit late now to think about signing UFAs for this year, but I would still rather have Poolman's cap hit as cap space rather than going to Poolman. A bit of extra cap space might make a useful trade possible. He is signed for two more years after this year with a cap hit of 2.5 million and is 29. Maybe he improves but right now that cap hit looks to me like the equivalent of dead money. I was not happy with the DeKeyser experiment but I would say that DeKeyser looks better than Poolman. (DeK plays the left side so they are not direct substitutes.)

We're probably going to have to add but I'm fine with that honestly, he's never been good.
Ghostsof1915
Mik and Kuz. Great, hope Mik gets back soon. Joshua, and Lazar, noticeable, and I like them for the 4th line. Outside of Petey our vet's are pretty underwhelming. Not sure if it's just they are pacing themselves. But Yeesh. Rathbone, is trying, but I think the AHL is better for him. I'd like to see Woo and Juulsen for one more game. See how they handle NHL speed.
KingRaj91
I actually don't know how Benning actually made the moves he made. Like idk if its his fault or Francescos lmao, like what was the process that went through his head when he signed Poolman to a $10M contract, or Loui to a $36M contract, it just never made sense to me. He drafted well tho imo, minus Virtanen and Juolevi.

But as you can see, right shot D men are in high demand. Loui was signed to play with the Sedins'. It's just too bad he fell off the cliff and provided pretty much nothing at the end.

I think I was definitely willing to give Poolman a fair shake, but man his break out passes can be horrendous at times-enough for me to see a pattern. If his play doesnt significantly improve I dont think waivers/AHL is unfair at all. Would be a bummer if it came to that-I was hoping hed impress

In the end he painted himself into a corner with the cap. Trusting Green was his fatal move. If he made more Schenn type moves and less Poolman type moves he would have been better served. Considering he's an ex-NHL defenceman, it's odd he couldn't draft good defencemen.
Ghostsof1915
Any idea what's happening with Keeper and Dermott? Are they both still injured? I thought they were healthy?

Dermott had a concussion so they’re probably being super cautious with him. They don’t wanna have another Poolman situation where he’s out long term.
