Ur a Towel
Figured he'd end up retiring. 25 seasons is a long time to be in the league and he had an amazing career. Next stop is into the HoF. 1
Ghostsof1915
Probably could still play, but didn't want to wait, or sometimes you just wake up and say "I can't do this anymore".
Popular Post Bell
Chara along with Pronger must be number 1 and 2 all time for uncalled illegal cross-checks to the head and neck area. F the Bruins 1

-AJ-
Honestly, I've never liked the guy, but I've gotta give props to a heck of a career. Definitely first ballot HHOF.

Coconuts
First ballot hall of famer, he had a helluva career. Sucks that he captained the Bruins against us in 2011 but it is what it is. Imagine being an Ottawa fan and watching Redden or Chara play out. Woof. What could have been in Ottawa.
Sophomore Jinx
Meh. Great career, still hate him. 9 foot tall cheap shot artist....and the stench and sting of '11 will always linger, thus he will remain the enemy.
canuck73_3
Hell of a career. Congrats Big Z

Chara, Messier and Denis Potvin. To think that he is the least obvious first ballot Hall of Famer to captain his way to a victory over us in the Final. That's a murderers' row of captains. One of them didn't even stop in the final and was so committed to the job that he joined the Canucks to destroy them from within.

That Islanders team was a team with a number of legit hall of famers in our defense (and we didn't even have our best defenseman in that series). Custer faced better odds at the Battle of Little Bighorn.

McCarthy and Lanz would quite possibly have been the #2 and #3 defensemen after Potvin on that Islanders dynasty team. Out for the whole thing at our end. We definitely win Game One with them in the lineup and then...who knows? That Islanders team was absolutely insane. HOFers in Smith, Bossy, Trottier, Potvin and Gillies. Not that far from it in Tonelli, Butch Goring and Brent Sutter. Plus Nystrom, Bob Bourne, a pair of 50ish point defensemen. Meanwhile no Canuck in history had ever scored 90 points in a season.
