Devron
I got my cup, now I’m rich but I’ll keep taking a discount
-AJ-
Not at all surprising. This will likely signal the beginning of the end for the Avalanche. Once others like Makar also get paid like this, they'll go the way of the Blackhawks recently. That said, they could easily win another Cup or two before the cap becomes entirely unmanageable. 3

If I was in the media I’d be crippling him with questions about being a team player and salary discounts haha
Fanuck
Double his last contract, essentially what people predicted. This is going to signal the beginning of the end of their ability to sign those depth guys that make the difference between a contender and just a PO team.

Popular Post CanuckFan1123
Man, he can literally buy a milkshake every day for the rest of his life and still have a lot of money. I can’t even afford a milkshake until payday. So jealous.
flickyoursedin
To all the people that thought he’d take a discount lol. He’s already been one of the most underpaid guys in the league. Giving them MVP seasons for 6.25 mill a year already. They got their discount he’s earned his money. Why would he take less when everybody else on the team is cashing in. 2

Gotta think, some of those old timers who played 30-40-50 years ago. Seeing what players are making today. They got hosed. But back then, mind you, players were tougher and played for pride.
Sophomore Jinx
12.6 AAV, with 85% of the salary being in signing bonuses. Woah. In the first 3 years, he's basically being paid league minimum.

Maginator
If MacKinnon gets 12.6 Makar is worth 14 on his next deal. That kid is amazing. I predict Makar wins the Hart this year barring injury. 1
Provost
He is worth it, but also he just likely shut the door on being with a consistent contender for his entire career. I know I am not in that position, but if I know my team plans on spending to the cap… is it much difference in lifestyle to me or my grandchildren whether I earn $72 million or $100 million on a contract like this? That difference on the contracts of a couple top players could mean being the winningest team for a decade or regularly missing the playoffs. If that was my team I’d be jumping for joy. They basically have 5 years to win a couple more cups. Then it all down hill. Makar new deal will kick in and they have some high priced depth now too
