(Proposal) VAN Pearson for CGY Tanev

VAN Pearson for CGY Tanev

Although what I propose is highly unlikely, with CGY having now signed Weegar long term, that leaves them 10 active NHL caliber Dmen.

Rumour is that Kylington and Valimaki are going to be used as trade bait to acquire a top 9 winger.

Tanev is 32 and has a couple seasons left at 4.5mill with a M-NTC.

Pearson, 30, also has two seasons left at  3.25mill with an M-NTC for this season.

with our current injuries at D, what do folks think of this proposal? Would we have to add a 3rd rounder or something to make it work?

Due to familiarity with the players on each roster and geographic proximity, both players may waive for this trade?
Huggy might really benefit from this.

Anyway, thoughts?
Thanks

Tanev is worth far far more than Pearson, despite the cap hit and age difference.

I agree he’s worth more but that’s why I included a 3rd round pick to balance.

If you don’t think that’s adequate what would you say would cause CGY to pull the trigger?

Apologies, I read the title and assumed it was the entire deal. That probably makes it closer, but I think Calgary very highly values Tanev, as we did when he was here. I think you'd have to add at least a 2nd instead of the 3rd and maybe as much as a 2nd and a 4th on top of Pearson to make it more even.

We'd absolutely have to add more than a 3rd, and I figure Calgary likes having defense as a strength

They'll probably ride out his contract and look for a replacement, he'll be 34 when his deal is up

Their D is definitely stacked but they need to add some F depth. Maybe this trade isn’t enough for them, but my thoughts were to try and capitalize on their current situation and balance out ours.  Still cant believe we’ve now lost Myers for up to a month.

Don't get me wrong, I get what you're trying to do it's just that if they want to build their forward depth they're probably better off doing it while not helping a direct rival. I reckon it'll be Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, LA, and Vegas in the mix for three spots with the other three being dark horses.

If Grubaeur can bounce back Seattle's top 9 isn't actually all that bad when you consider who their top prospects are and that they'll get every opportunity to step in. Their D isn't abysmal either even if it could probably use an upgrade, but team play could alleviate any weakness there to an extent. They've got some good role players too. San Jose is a mostly veteran laden team that looks like it'll be more towards the bottom of the division but they could surprise, and like Seattle they're still dangerous enough to take points off every team in the division. Anaheim made some interesting additions but looks to still be in rebuild/transition mode, they could surprise though. I'll never write off a Gibson backed team.

Some folks make this division out to be weak, and maybe in comparison to a couple other divisions it might be, but it will absolutely be a competitive division.

Totally agree. Sometimes you see it happen when it’s a trade that just makes good sense for both clubs, but trading within division is definitely not a preference.

just such a tough market to acquire a RHD and Tanev has intrinsic value to us. Was more being hopeful we could pull something like this off considering our current needs

I still think Jersey would be a good trading partner, I'd love to try and grab Marino from them but given he's younger and signed to a friendly deal with term it's more likely they'll be more open to moving Severson. I question what the acquisition cost would be though.

It's hard to say, he had 46 points last season, I had no idea. Maybe they want to retain him too and just be strong down the right side..
