Rick Blight
Nicolas Meloche, RHD, Calgary Flames 25, 6’3”, 212lb, $950K League Team Games Goals Assists Points 2021/22 NHL San Jose 50 2 5 7 The Flames signed Meloche away from the San Jose Sharks this offseason, where he’d been developing into a fine bottom-pairing defender. All the same, the depth of the Calgary blueline could still send Meloche packing to waivers in October. Meloche makes his reputation on physicality and defensive reliability, which are always positive qualities to add to a blueline. He’s valuable depth, and if that valuable depth is available for free, a team should take it. 1

Don’t know much about him but always appreciate the information that others may be able to contribute.

Wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him, but who would need to be cut to make that pickup?

Yeah, I think that is the issue. Seems like it would have to be Burroughs or Poolman and I am not sure they would be comfortable with that.

lmm
who would you rather, Meloche at $950 Myers 2.0 at $2.55 M Burroughs at $750 Poolman at $2.5 M Myers is costing Tampa $1.4 M buried, so I assume Poolman would be the same

Meloche had trouble sticking in San Jose. Myers 2.0 was a fail in Nashville last year. Burroughs can only do limited 3rd pairing as we saw last year. Poolman is the oldest, presumably most mature, but also injury prone then Burroughs - I agree with your assessment I don't ever recall seeing Myers or Meloche play, I know I have heard their names during games, but they never made an impression + or - on me Myers not being able to crack Nashville or Tampa's deep defenses at 24 YO, might land in the #3 hole on Vancouver. Again, I haven't seen him play. Myers is in about the same spot Schenn was when he came here. I would guess Myers and Meloche have more upside and potential growth than do Burroughs and Poolman
Ghostsof1915
Any way we can get Dobson without gutting our team? No huh?
Diamonds
When Calgary's right side consists of Weegar, Andersson, and Tanev, Meloche was never going to crack the starting lineup. Calgary probably feel it's more valuable to get prime minutes in the AHL rather than ride the bench as a #7 waiting for an injury to happen. Also by waiting until everyone had their rosters set it's probably unlikely that he gets picked up.

Any way you look at it they are all bottom pairing d so not much to be gained by grabbing another one.

I guess it would be possible that they believe Meloche to be a better bottom pair option than any of those three and that could lead to a claim. But I am not going to hold my breath....

We will see how he does in Tampa. Meloche reminded me of Fanta but I only saw ~2 of his games at most and didn't pay much attention beyond being intrigued that I had never heard of him before.
