it is very early in the season, very disappointing to see us lose 3 straight when we had multi goal leads. They can turn it around, there needs to be accountability and players need to lead by example. No player will play the perfect game every night but learning how to make proper line changes and never giving up on the back check should be 2 things all players can do every game.

Ideally, the captain would lead by example and come out next game like he got shot out of a cannon. Be physically engaged, bust his arse back checking and being vocal on the ice and on the bench. Will that happen, time will tell but I don't see Horvat being that kind of leader.

The issue is our team is very UNbalanced, we have tons of scoring in our forward group but we lack good defensively responsible forwards and our Defense is atrocious even when healthy it is not good enough. The fact our New GM went out and spent 4.75m on a PK Forward like Mikheyev was a shock to me, we should have used the cap space to FIX our Defense.

We traded a player who always gave it his all when he played for us in Tyler Motte. Yes he had some injuries, mostly because he put his body in front of any shot he could he always hit and pressured the opposing D in their own end on the fore check. We had a D man like that too in Tanev, but again we walked away due to injury concerns or let's face it just a Bad GM. These 2 players were a BIG loss for the team.

This team is capable of turning it around, they need to continue to work hard and if they do the wins will come. Until we make some drastic changes to who plays on D and the culture of how the team plays its going to be a rocky time being a Canucks fan

Our D hardly needs fixing, we need Derm and Myers back and that's half the problem, the other half is team D which will sort itself out given a bit more time and I doubt it will take much longer.

Unless a team has been playing together for years and with the new additions, that's not us, yet.

Arguably the majority of our team has but with new guys filtering in we're not quite there yet but you had to know losing 3 straight would have the media and fans losing their ____ over it but unlike last year it won't last long.

Like the op said it's not scoring being the problem, it's just D which is easily fixable as we go along.

If anyone can fix it, it's Bruce, simply pushing team D harder and letting guys get settled in playing the same lines so the transition is smoother and uncomplicated unlike TG who kept running complicated systems when all was needed was a simple style of play and then move things forward.

I wish we would go to the older style of hard hitting, fast fore checking and force turn ovee exactly the way we did in 2011-12, that style worked perfectly.

One may argue we don't have the depth for that yet but I see it happening over the next season or so.

THAT was exactly why we got as far as we did, lack of depth for injuries is what finally killed us.

I'm not particularly worried though, we'll be ok.

When we go on our first winning streak everyone will forget this in a hurry.

Good thread. And agree that there’s reason for positivity.

I think it’s so much harder to watch the team blow leads, rather than simply get blown out. There’s more of an emotional impact for fans, going from the “high” of the team holding a multi-goal lead, to the “low” of watching that lead evaporate and end in a loss.

But the fact the team was able to get out to those leads is encouraging. And much more suggestive of this team being able to win, compared to if they’d simply trailed for 60 minutes in every game, and never looked, even for just one period of hockey, like they had a chance.

I also think that it’s highly unlikely that the key players who’ve really struggled so far are going to continue to play this poorly. And if just a couple (maybe even one) of our underperforming top guys gets dialled-in and back playing the way we know they’re capable, I think it could quickly turn things around for the entire team, and suddenly we’re winning games and looking like a playoff contender, rather than a lottery team.

It’s also just three games.

That’s not to say that those three games haven’t been horrible. They have. Really tough to watch.

But I do think things could turn around rather quickly.

And certainly the team deserves a longer look than three road games before we decide that everything is hopeless and broken, the season is a complete write off, and start campaigning for coaching/management firings, firesale trades, and a full teardown rebuild.

It’s also just a tough way to start the season, playing a bunch of home openers on the road, with several players injured (or just back from treatment/surgery), and some of the top of the lineup players having pretty nightmarish early results.

It’ll get better.

It's certainly not as bad as some are making it out to be.  Same thing happens every year when players or the team goes through a bad stretch.  Let's not forget, this is almost entirely the same team (with more firepower up front) that went 32-15-10 with BB coaching last year.  The sky is not falling as some would have you believe.

Benning is gone.

‘Burroughs looks like NHL player

Kuzmenko looks legit and will necessitate trade of Boesser.
‘Just set an all time NHL record.

Can only get better from here.

‘Even my positivity sounds kind of negative.

I wonder if Bedard is the first local kid projected to go first overall?  This is the story book stuff that breaks curses/droughts.  "Local team gets first #1 pick OA in franchise history, drafts first local kid to go first overal.  Local kid leads his home town team to first stanley cup in franchise history"

This is why some of us were praying we would sell last year. This team isn't ready to compete and even if the chances are slim, it felt like the stars could align this year for Vancouver in the draft.
