Kelly Green
This is a really good proposal imo, a big risk for sure but I would have to seriously consider it .
Elias Pettersson
Why would Chicago do this Jan? Aren't they rebuilding? Or are you thinking they would rather have Miller over Jones as part of their rebuild? Also, it may be difficult to get that 2022 2nd round pick from them as they already used it 3 months ago to draft somebody... wai_lai416
yes a full on tanking rebuilding team will take JT Miller + a cap dump and give u seth jones and a pick lol.. if seth jones is willing to move.. i actually don't think the cost is high to obtain him from chicago.. the market is very limited on where he can go.. not many team can afford 9.5mil cap hit.. and not many are contenders or close that jones would consider.. more realistic would be trade JT miller for picks and prospect and package all the picks/prospect for jones in a 3 way deal of some sort.

J.I.A.H.N
I have heard that Jone's contract is pretty unmovable. The buy out is terrible and his contract is too high. In saying that, Miller's is just that much lower that he could be moved, if they wanted too, or just take the savings. In any case, IMO, Chicago will go totally rebuild in the next few years when Kane and Toews both retire. I think Jones is a good player CC, which is why I am suggesting it, but he is not that offensive, in the big picture. But he does play first pairing in Chicago. I think the cash savings Chicago gets on a deal like this, makes then owing the pick. IMHO....lol
Honourable Hughes
Absolutely not. Aside from Jones as a player and also his contract, the Canucks would be insane to trade a player after signing him to a 7 year extension unless that player expressed that he changed his mind and wants out. This isn’t a video game, you don’t commit $$$ and term to a player and ask him and his family to commit to the city long term only to trade him away before his new deal kicks in. The Canucks are somewhat starting to build a reputation as a place that players WANT to come play. Winning the Kuzmenko sweepstakes was an example of that. Word gets around. Obviously the team needs to perform and reach a new level of success if they want to build off that. Players and their agents will look at a J.T Miller trade and think to stay away from the Canucks. We want to be a destination, not a team that says one thing and does another. Long-term value & reputation is more important, than short-term fixes. When I hear upgrades for practice facilities, locker room etc. it’s a good sign of building more value for the club. If it makes any difference, I was in the trade camp for J.T Miller, but now that we have signed him and the cap is moving up, let’s just move forward. The value will be less, but Garland and Boeser are the guys I’d be looking at to move as we are abundant on the wing. Just my 2 cents.

The cap is looking to go up to $92 million in 2025. So Miller's contract will be less than 9% of the cap. It's not going to be the burden that lots of people think. In 3-4 years most 2nd line players will be making $8 million. Top line players like Petey will be making over $11 million. So as long as Miller is a 2nd line player that contract is fine. We shouldn't be paying another defenceman $9.5 million. We need a good defensive partner for Hughes. A younger Tanev. Andrew Peeke could be that guy and he's only making $2.75 million next year. Or find a guy making $5-6 million. Once Myers is off the books in 2 years it will be alot easier to add to the cap on the defensive side. For now, as we've seen, Myers is our best RHD so we need to complement him with a defensive Tanev type player for Quinn.

I think Quinn shines when we get him a proper Top 4 TWD or DFD. We can’t expect him to do what he does best if we also expect him to do everything else. So far he hasn’t looked the best this season, but we can ensure we get Hughes’ best by getting him a reliable partner that gives Quinn more freedom.
garthsbutcher
Sign and trade Horvat on a prearranged deal if he will agree to go to AZ for Chychrun
shiznak
Jones would be eaten alive on CDC, with his boneheaded plays. He’s one of the most overrated defensemen in the league.
Bobby James
Chicago would say no. Makes no sense for a rebuilding team. I think they'd be open to moving Jones, but they will have to eat a lot of the cap. Maybe they would be open to something like: To Van: Jones (50% retained) To Chi: Rathbone 1 round draft pick They get a young D and a 1st and Jones leave a rebuilder that he didn't want to go through to begin with, but Chicago will be stuck with that salary for a long time. Unlikely it happens on either side. Nucks likely don't wanna pay another 1st either.

Kobayashi Maru
Obviously his current contract gives him negative value, but what is the point where Chicago receives some value back? To Vancouver: Seth Jones (3M retained) To Chicago: Conor Garland Jack Rathbone Jones at 6.5M seems like a much more realistic value and roughly replaces the Myers amount in a couple years. Chicago get a good prospect in Rathbone and Garland likely gives them more assets if they trade him plus they mostly get out of a huge contract. I would also ask a third back as yes right now Jones is over paid and we would be doing them a favor by taking it
