Popular Post Goal:thecup
[GDT] Thursday Oct 20/22 Vancouver Canucks (0-3-1) @ Minnesota Wild (0-3) at Xcel Energy Center 5:00pm PT SN360 SN650AM The "Right Way" EDITION: Heads up boys, JR's in town and he's not impatient, yet. Listen up boys, play the right way, and do what you're told. If you're on the penalty kill, kill the penalty (as in, don't let them score, and do not take a penalty yourselves). If you're on the power play, get off the ice as fast as you can on shift change, and before you are tired (and do not take a penalty yourselves). Do not give the officials any reason whatsoever to call a penalty on us, play SSC - Super Squeaky Clean (we have yet to earn our Contender Class Free Pass). Put the past in the past, prepare for every drop of the puck, every shift, every line change like your life depends on it; stay in the moment always (Puck! Puck! Puck!) Do not take your foot off the gas, not after goals, not after periods, not after 60 minutes, not until the game is over; period. Play like a team, pass, pass, pass and show up for each other, and stand up for each other, and give it all for each other, all the time. Now, let's go! And let's win! And let's celebrate! And let's get on the plane home with 2 more points in the bag. Among coaches with 600 wins to their name, Boudreau's .634 points percentage would rank second only to Scotty Bowman (.657). If the Canucks can secure a victory tonight at Minnesota, Bruce Boudreau would become the fifth coach in NHL history to earn his 600th career coaching win against a team he previously coached, joining Lindy Ruff (w/DAL vs BUF), Ron Wilson (w/TOR vs SJS), Mike Keenan (w/CGY vs STL), and Dick Irvin (w/MTL vs CHI). ELIAS PETTER-CENT Netting his third goal of the season on Oct. 18 at CBJ, Elias Pettersson registered his 100th career NHL goal, requiring the second fewest games in Canucks history to reach the mark among players to debut with the franchise, trailing only Pavel Bure (154 GP). The goal also tied Pettersson with Jake Guentzel (PIT) and Brayden Point (TBL) as the ninth-fastest active player to reach 100 career goals. He also is the first player from the 2017 NHL draft class to reach the milestone. SHORTHANDED SHOOTER Opening the scoring with a shorthanded tally on Oct. 18 at CBJ, Bo Horvat passed Matt Cooke for sole possession of eighth-most shorthanded goals in franchise history (9), and now sits just one back of tying Ryan Kesler (10) for seventh-most. Pavel Bure holds the club record with 24 shorthanded goals. SPENCE-TACULAR Turning aside 29 shots in an overtime defeat on Oct. 18 at CBJ, Spencer Martin improved his record with the Canucks to 3-0-4, and now sits just one game back of tying Curt Ridley (6-0-2 in 1975.76) as the only goaltender in franchise history to earn at least a point in each of his eight starts with the team. CRACKING THE TOP 50 Brock Boeser skated in his 326th career game on Oct. 15 at PHI, passing Ron Sedlbauer for 50th most games played in franchise history and joining Bo Horvat (574 GP, 18th) as the only other active Canuck in the top 50 games played in club history. With 258 career points (121-137-258), Boeser already ranks inside Vancouver's top 50 in goals (t-20th), assists (t-37th), and points (28th). HOMEGROWN TALENT Making his 137th NHL regular season appearance on Oct. 12 at EDM, Thatcher Demko gained sole possession of most games played in franchise history by a Canucks-drafted goaltender, surpassing Glen Hanlon's mark of 136 games. Demko also currently stands just five wins away from tying Gary Smith for sixth-most wins among all goalies in Canucks history. QUICK START Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller combined goals for a 2-0 Canucks lead just 2:40 into the season opener on Oct. 12 at EDM, marking the fastest two goals to begin a season in franchise history, 75 seconds faster than the previous team mark (3:55 on Oct. 5 vs CGY). The goals also marked the eighth-fastest two-goal start in any game in Canucks history. ROAD READY The Canucks begin their 2022.23 season on a five-game road trip from Oct. 12-20, which will match team's longest road of the season (also Nov. 8-15 and Jan. 8-15). Vancouver also began last season on a season-high six-game road trip, compiling a 3-2-1 record. Colorado Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev (40) makes a save on a shot by Minnesota Wild center Joel Eriksson Ek (14) on Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, during the second period at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Matt Krohn / USA Today Sports By Dane Mizutani / St. Paul Pioneer Press October 18, 2022 08:39 AM SHARE FACEBOOK TWITTER EMAIL ST. PAUL — The 2022-23 season is only a few games old and goaltending has already become an issue for the Minnesota Wild. After starter Marc-Andre Fleury stumbled out of the starting blocks, the Wild turned to backup Filip Gustavsson for Monday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche. Let’s just say it didn’t go much better for Gustavsson. He made 32 saves against the defending Stanley Cup champions. He also allowed a few soft goals that proved to be the difference as the Wild suffered a 6-3 loss to the Avalanche. With the score tied at 2-2 midway through the game, Gustavsson bobbled a harmless shot from star center Nathan MacKinnon. In the blink of an eye, winger Mikko Rantanen pounced on the puck, and finished off an easy goal to give the Avalanche a lead they never relinquished. That’s been the story of the Wild so far this season. They haven’t been able to buy a save to this point and it’s cost them on their way to a disappointing 0-3-0 start. ADVERTISEMENT The game started off on the wrong foot as Minnesota native Ben Meyers scored on a fluky deflection to put the Avalanche in front 1-0. Luckily for the Wild, they responded roughly 45 seconds later as Kirill Kaprizov dropped to bended knee and hammered home a slick pass from Calen Addison to tie the score at 1-1. Minnesota Wild left wing Kirill Kaprizov (97) celebrates his power play goal with left wing Matt Boldy (12) during the third period on Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, against the Colorado Avalanche at Xcel Energy Center. Though the Wild easily could’ve folded in the face of adversity, especially given the way this season has gone, they responded in the second period and got a goal from Joel Eriksson Ek on the power play to level the score at 2-2. That energized the home crowd at the Xcel Energy Center only for Gustavsson to suck the life out of the arena a few minutes later by allowing a soft goal. The sequence started with MacKinnon leading a rush through the neutral zone before casually dumping a puck on net. It should’ve been an easy save for Gustavsson. Instead, the puck floated around the crease and Rantanen cashed in to help the Avalanche regain the lead 3-2. That lead grew early in the third period as defenseman Josh Manson pinched up in the play and beat Gustavsson with another soft backhander to stretch the Avalanche lead to 4-2. That stood up as the game-winner. Though the Wild got a goal from Kaprizov later in the third period to cut the deficit to 4-3, they never got any closer than that. Maye the most egregious thing that happened in the final frame occurred with the Wild on a delayed penalty. They sent an extra player over the board and got called for too many men on the ice to nullify what would’ve been a power play. ADVERTISEMENT Fittingly, the Avalanche got a goal from MacKinnon late in third period to make it 5-3 before winger Valeri Nichushkin finalized the score at 6-3. He’s going to point to the sky and say that ones for you dad. 5-2W Canucks. The boys will build momentum off that emotional game for Boeser and carry it into the homestand where they pulverize everyone in their path. mll
The Wild have allowed 20 goals in 3 games. They've been poor defensively but their goalies have also allowed some really soft goals. Fleury even got bronx cheered and ended up being pulled - only the 2nd time that Evason pulled his goalie in over 150 games. Gustavsson didn't do much better the next game. It's Goligoski's 1'000th game. Greenway returns from off-season injury. He obviously reunites with ErikssonEk and Foligno on their GREEF line. That line never seems to work when it's not all 3 of them on it. Rossi is back in the lineup after a controversial healthy scratch - he even gets promoted to the 3rd line with Gaudreau-Boldy.
