Harpur - 27yo 6'6" 230lb defenceman with over 150 NHL games under his belt with a low-risk one-year deal.

Do we need someone like that.....?

A big body for sure, low cost/risk, but comes with zip for offense (1 career goal) and not a whole lot more.

Oh it's so easy to get excited by those numbers. But do they add up to an NHL-worthy player?

I'd be alright if we could get someone to stop goals going in.  We have enough guys that can play offensive D.

Well, he played over 50 games with NSH, a franchise that knows a thing or two about NHL defencemen.....

At this point, it's just a matter of time until another body goes down and who knows when the next d-man will be available via waivers/trade.....?

Also a career minus player, mostly with bad OTT teams though. Scouting report:

His size (6'6", 231 pounds) makes him a force in front of his own net. Is not a bad skater for someone so tall, but he contributes very little offensively. Therefore, he has to play mostly error-free hockey in his own zone. He is more than willing to stand up for his teammates.

Could he partner and protect Hughes, while Quinn takes care of the offense? Probably not, but I'm open to anything at this point.

Could he take care of Rathbone on a 3rd pairing… maybe.

Do we have 7 or 8 healthy NHL calibre D better than him already?  No.

Yup - they just announced that Stillman is IR and Dermott on LTIR.

A guy like Harpur would be pretty useful at this point I'm guessing - if nothing else then just for a stop-gap.
