Jack Studnicka | #18 | C

Funny to hear some Bruins fans thinking Studnicka has a lot of potential but he really hasn't cracked the NHL after 4 years in a decent organization which develops young players well. Not only has center competition been tough to battle but he just hasn't been that good, so we'll see what he can do with the Canucks but like many big strong centers, hopefully he's just a late bloomer.

From what I have read, Studnicka has mostly played C in the AHL with the last couple years being used to try to mold him into a winger at the NHL level. He is apparently most effective at C but has so far really only shown that at the AHL level. Boston fans seem to point to the Bruins' preference for veterans (something Canucks fans can relate to, I'm sure) which has made it hard for Studnicka to supplant the veteran Cs and Ws in front of him.

I'm honestly not expecting a whole lot from Studnicka but do hope that he can become an effective 3C for the Canucks. He's got decent size, skating ability and is described as a smart player, so those seem like good qualities to at least be a bottom 6 NHLer. If he can do that at the center position, then even better. If this was 2-years ago, then I would probably be more excited about acquiring Studnicka, but there is still reason to be hopeful.

At minimum, if Studnicka can improve his faceoff ability and contribute on the PK, then that would give the Canucks more options.  Having Lazar and Studnicka as RHCs who could play on the PK would be useful.  Whether Studnicka contributes offensively is the greater unknown at this point.  I don't think it'll be fair to judge Studnicka for awhile as every player takes time to settle into a new team.  At any rate, looking forward to seeing how he does in his first game.

Happy the Canucks have him. I've thought of various trade proposals over the last year or two and deals with BOS have included Studnicka as "the prospect". But in my imagination before regarding trades, it was Miller or Horvat going to BOS for a package. Canucks hardly gave anything up for Jack.

Hopefully he'll have better luck than the previous two #18s

I like that JR/PA are bringing in cheap, young, gritty, character players looking for a chance to re-invent or prove themselves. Joshua, Lazar, Aman, Studnicka, Stillman, Bear

Canucks had no right-shot Cs before. Now they have Lazar, Studnicka and Pederson.

JR/PA getting things done, without looking like they're doing much.

Considering the cap situation they inherited; I think they have done a decent job of improving the team. Once the Escrow is paid back and the cap rises by a significant amount hopefully they can make a pitch for a #1 RD.

well i didnt really see much of him against the devils anyway....will ofc take a couple of games to see what he is about...

I thought he played a solid fourth line role.

he skates good, seems driven, hustles and uses his edges well.

You have a source?

I heard one of the media guys  say "Jack and his entourage" didn't think he was getting appropriate ice time in Boston. That could have meant his agent I guess. I just heard that comment and assumed it was a thing. I don't have much for sources other than there was always talk surrounding his ice time.
