-AJ-
I expect Studnicka to play a lot more in Abbotsford than in Vancouver, but given that he's likely the Lazar replacement, he might get some NHL time right away, so I'm putting him here for now. Some things I've found: - Played 35 games with Boston over the past two years--tends to play a little more in the AHL than NHL, but does play in both fairly equally. - Average height and weight - Slightly sub-par at face-offs, but did improve a little last year over 2020-21 - Plays 4th line minutes - Very bad shooting percentage over the past two years--could either mean he has no finish or that he's had bad luck and should start improving (regressing to the mean) soon - Relatively low hit frequency - Average block frequency - Extremely responsible on the penalty front--has 4 PIM over the 35 games from 2020-2022. - Not a regular on the PK, but did get some cups of coffee on the PK #2 in Boston - Very little PP time, but did get some brief looks - 51.5% OZ%, so used pretty evenly in 5v5 play - Sub-par possession at 47.0% CORSI - Almost certainly a top 2 centre at the AHL level, tending a little more towards passing than shooting 2
Popular Post Junkyard Dog
Bottom 6 RH C. Plays a strong two-way game Quotes Quote Lean two way centreman who leads by example with grit, giddy-up, and great team first gumption. His quick feet get him going and he deceptive slides into open seams looking for the puck. Well schooled and solid in his own end, and is calm and smart during the heat of the play. An unselfish player who will work passing plays from all the areas in front and work the wall and around the horn to unearth pucks too. Although he thinks pass first, he has a been know to surprise with well placed shots while off balance, but was probably looked at as a bottom end centre with his contributions being his strengths and not as a player who would be counted on to score…until he suddenly came on in the playoffs and also with Team Canada at the World U-18s, contributing at a higher rate than anyone had seen until that point. Needs time to develop, and he isn’t a sure thing, but the scoring may improve. He has some skills and good feet, and comes to play a responsible way for 60 minutes, so that makes him a safer selection, albeit one that may not have a high water mark. I see lots of guys making a living in the bigs who fit that very same description. Quote Skating Studnicka has taken some big steps in improving his skating over this past year, but can still get even a little better. He has very good top end speed. There are some issues in his first step though, and he needs to continue to work on his acceleration. Studnicka is better at getting in quickly on a forecheck, or on using his speed off the rush, then he is at tracking down loose pucks or making short bursts in the offensive and defensive zone. He has good agility and edgework, as well as the power to fight through checks and get to the net. Quote Offensive Game Jack Studnicka is a very smart player. He is a strong play maker. Studnicka has excellent vision, and is able to make tough passes to teammates. He moves the puck smartly, putting it in good spaces where a linemate can race onto it, if he doesn’t have another play. He is a decent stick handler who protects the puck well down low, and in the cycle game. Studnicka can also score goals. He has a good wrist shot, with power and accuracy. He could stand to work on his release though. Studnicka can stand to use his shot more often though. He gets himself open for shots by finding soft spots in the defence, and finishing passes from teammates. Studnicka is willing to get to the net and battle in the corners. He is not afraid to play in the dirty areas of the ice or to take a hit to make a play. However, Studnicka needs to bulk up to continue to play this game at the pro level. Quote Defensive Game Studnicka has a well developed defensive game. He kills penalties, anticipating plays and cutting down passing lanes. He has a strong positional game and is not afraid to block shots. Studnicka shows his grit in all three zones, battling for position and loose pucks. He is also very good in the face-off circle.

Junkyard Dog
Currently listed at 187lbs. Skating and his size were past remarks about what he needed to improve upon and reports now state those areas of his game have grown. Bruins knew he wouldn’t clear so they moved him. Canucks will have to clear some space for him on the roster.
