(Proposals) Address some key needs

Recommended Posts

Moving forward I see our top 6 forward group as Miller, Horvat, Podkolzin, Kuzmenko, Pettersson, Mikheyev.

This means we need a 3C and we still need to find a youngish, decent top 4 Dman to pair with Hughes.

Proposal #1

To BUF: Boeser

To VAN: 2023 2nd round pick (from PHI) + 2023 2nd round pick (from VGK)

Buffalo secure a top line sniper in Boeser who will mesh well with their young centers for years to come. VAN gets futures.

Proposal #2

To SJS: Garland + Hoglander

To VAN: Kunin + Sturm

SJS gets younger (Hogs) and some top 6 talent (Garland). VAN gets 2/3 of a 3rd line back.

Proposal #3

To LAK: 2023 1st round pick (top 8 protected)

To VAN: Matt Roy

LA moves Roy for a 1st round pick. They have plenty of young D talent to replace him with. VAN finally gets the top 4 Dman that can pair with Hughes.

Proposal #4

To FLA: Dermott

To VAN: Hornqvist + 2023 2nd round pick

Once Dermott returns from injury VAN will have too many depth LD. FLA needs to clear some cap prior to Duclair returning from LTIR. This deal gives them some more depth on their blueline (Dermott can play both sides) and clears essential cap.

No interest in this part unfortunately.

Particularly after trading 3 forwards from our roster.  Matt Roy is not a game breaker. Projects to 20ish points. Sorta big, sorta tough yaeh, sorta has game speed?

Why a first, a high first?

Love that everyone wants to improve our Canucks!  :towel:

Could just simplify this - LAK would love more scoring, and we've got Boeser and Garland. I think Garland for Roy straight up should be enough and worthwhile for both teams. We get a young-ish RD to play a shutdown role with Hughes, and we've got plenty of wingers in any case.

When fully healthy:

Mikheyev - Pettersson - Kuzmenko

Miller - Horvat - Boeser

Pearson - Lazar - Podkolzin

Joshua - Aman - Hoglander

Hughes - Roy

OEL - Myers

Dermott - Schenn
Bear

Rathbone

Burroughs

Would love to do something like garland for Roy but don’t think LA needs more scoring, they have 36 goals in 10 games. As top 9 fwds they have fiala, kempe, arvidsson, iafallo, kaliyev and vilardi. Is garland really a big enough upgrade on some of them to make a deal? They need help on defence, particularly lhd.

Matt Roy is a top 4 Dman that can actually play defense. His cap hit is only $3.15m.

Hughes is our game breaker. Hughes needs a reliable, proven top 4 defensive partner (sorta like Tanev was). I don't want Alvin going out and paying 2-3 times the cap hit for an offense-orientated UFA Dman like Severson or Klingberg next off season!

Can you name another young-ish top 4 Dman where his current team has enough depth that they would be willing to part with him? I can't think of one. The list of candidates is either too old, too expensive or unproven as top 4.

I think a 1st round pick is market rate for a proven top 4 RD. Will it be a high first? Doubt it.

DAL paid a 1st + 3rd* for an unproven RD in Lundkvist (*looking like it will be a 3rd, might end up a 4th instead)

CBJ is bursting with guys in our wheelhouse. The same age or younger than Lundqvist (who I would have paid his ante).  Take your pick, Boqvist or Ceulemans?

Bear is better than Lundquist and only cost us a fifth.  Crazy what Dallas paid.

Appreciate your post, but what I think this team needs is a PROVEN top 4 RD that can step in right now and make the team more competitive.

I don't see a fit with Boqvist and VAN. He is another small offense oriented RD. He doesn't score enough to outweigh his defensive issues. He is also often injured, doesn't even play on the PK. Not the guy to pair well with Hughes and doesn't balance this roster at all.

Ceulemans is a 19 year old unsigned NCAA player. Might make it to the NHL next year? Could be a good future guy.

Peeke is the only one that I would be interested in from CBJ right now (unless Gavrikov can play right side...) but he doesn't even start his new contract with CBJ til next season so pretty sure they won't be moving him.

Proposal #1 and #4 I'd say yes to. Definitely down for the Canucks to use any available cap space to take 1 year cap dumps and acquire a pick.

#2 and #3 I'd say no. I think we lose the SJ trade for no reason really. I don't think we should trade another 1st. Our core team is young but unlike other young teams we have almost no younger prospects coming up that could be impactful. We need more picks and to draft more players.
