They are only valued at 655 million, they will be a billion dollar franchise in a few years.

After purchasing the team and the arena from virtual bankruptcy for $92mil in 2003, Melnyk made a considerable profit as they are currently valued at around $655 million (no one is really clear how much he invested over the years, but regardless, he's made a good return on his investment).

One would think that if his two daughters had the ambition of seeing the team through the development of the new downtown arena and the transition from bottom-feeder to perennial playoff team - that they would benefit ever more from a much, much higher franchise valuation.  But I don't blame the sisters, I can't imagine how difficult it would be to pull off a new arena development in a major Canadian city in a time of financial uncertainty, not to mention it's probably easier to find buyers for a team at this price-point than it would be at an all-time high if they waited 4-5 years.

If we each pitch in $6,690.  We can afford it.  I would actually do this.

We can use the Senators as a destination to send the Canucks bad contracts, utilize cap space to acquire players cheaply, draft players for the Canucks, etc.

This is how the Canucks finally win the cup.  Let's do this.

That's what the Norris family did with the Blackhawks for the Red Wings.

Report: Ryan Reynolds ‘very interested’ in purchasing Ottawa Senators

As the Ottawa Senators begin the process of selling the team following the death of owner Eugene Melnyk, a Canadian Hollywood icon is reportedly showing some interest.

Ryan Reynolds is “very interested” in buying the team with the intention of keeping it in the Ottawa region, a source close to the actor told People Magazine.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported the team was set to be put up for sale soon and Galatioto Sports Partners has been retained to help with the process. Melnyk’s two adult daughters inherited the franchise and the team is in the early planning stages to build a new arena on the Lebreton Flats closer to downtown.

“What comes first, a new arena or the sale of the team? Sources suggest the sale could be done much more quickly, but new ownership will want to make sure everything is lined up to build a new arena on an identified 7.5-acre tract of land in LeBreton Flats, just west of Parliament Hill,” Sportsnet’s Wayne Scanlan reported Wednesday.

Reynolds, from Vancouver, is one of the more successful actors currently working in Hollywood — headlined by his lead role in the Deadpool franchise. In 2020, he and fellow actor Rob McElhenney purchased the Welsh football club Wrexham AFC, which competes in the fifth tier of the English Football system.
