Popular Post DownUndaCanuck
Looking around the league, the buyers and sellers are starting to emerge. As weirdly good as Chicago have been, they will still surely be sellers at the deadline as they have nowhere to go but down, then up. They've done it before and it won them 2 cups and they'll do it again. They've got Kane who will surely get shipped off somewhere, but also Toews at 10M and they have cap space. Meanwhile Edmonton need defensive forwards with some playoff experience and are lacking in the middle 6. Toews could be reunited with Keith nicely. To EDM: Toews (4M retained) To CHI: Puljujarvi + 1st + 2nd Usually Toews wouldn't be worth too much as a rental but he's got 8 points in 10 games, Chicago are retaining almost half and cap dumping Puljujarvi's 3M. Chicago likely let Poolparty walk and take the two picks. They'll probably squeeze another team for a 1st + decent young player/prospect for Kane at the bare minimum too and end up loaded in a deep draft. Take notes Canucks management... 3
Elias Pettersson
I agree. Chicago will be unloading both Kane and Toews for as much as they can. They did a proper rebuild, won 2 cups, and now will do another proper rebuild.
Kobayashi Maru
This is a really good swap for both clubs. I don't think they get a 1st in return, but maybe Puljujarvi and a 2nd (Maybe they stretch for the late 1st with retention) for Toews. I would be pretty surprised if Toews gets a lot more given his recent decline due to injury. He has done well to start the year, but I doubt he maintains it. King Heffy
Would love to see the Oilers bring in another locker room cancer like Captain Clown. 1
IBatch
Keith retired. And why didn't they get acknowledged for their third cup? You know "modern era dynasty", that thing Bettman said (which is code for cap era!...wish they only won two lol. Im not sure either Kane or Toews would waive .., but it's possible. Toews has complained enough publicly about his core getting dismantled lol. Despite never once acknowledging that both he and Kane took a gigantic amount of cap space off the table (and that was the end of their cup runs right then and there)...Hard to believe a Captain of an NHL team, can be so darn dumb. Edit: PIT and WSH won their cups when Crosby and Ovi's cap hit eventually became palatable. Took a decade for PIT, even longer for Ovi. That's what happens with these high paid stars on long deals. Tampa Bay those guys took less but got it get the same or more net pay ... Second contracts are the main window ... enough is left over to pay for the key support guys, or add another core member (Kessel in PIT).. IBatch
As for the OP, this is a smart deal for both teams. But not sure Toews would choose EDM. I do think he might bail, same with Kane .... what happened to Beech, i'm sure they were at least exposed to the teasing, but keep denying it ever happened. And both publicly defended their former coach. Who did the right thing, only when he got caught. Those cups were sullied, same with the names of those guys too. OP good job for picking the right team at least ... Holland has no problems giving guys second chances (Kane, JV)... As soon as they start sinking Bettman and the lottery balls will come to their aide at the draft... Please don't let them waive... but keep sucking the life out of the Blackhawks.
