[Proposal] Singing the Blues

JT Miller to ST. Louis

for

Ryan O’Reilly

O’Reilly is struggling mightily this year.

Vancouver moves a contract mistake. O’Reilly is a pending UFA that can be flipped at deadline.

Or

Re-sign as third line center

But also

Re-sign Bo Scorevat

I usually hate this section but dark times upon us right now

But really, I don't think it's a fit. If you look at the Blues cap they've already allocated much of what they'll get from an expiring O'Reilly and Tarasenko to Thomas and Kyrou. Maybe ROR sticks around for less, but I could see them having a tough time fitting in Miller's 8M even if the cap goes up a good chunk, they've got other expiring guys and RFA's to sort out too.

True enough. Seems almost doable though on their end. Leave it for them to figure out muhahaha

I would do this for the cap flexibility as long as we are committed to using the savings to aquire more future assets. Instead of us wasting it on UFAs, We aquire the "cap dump" Plus high picks.

ROR is getting older but I loved what this guy brought for years.

We would need to set up all the Canucks for kids telethon phones at the TDL having ROR + BO ++++ all for 50% Retained available

Maybe, if they wanted him, it'd likely result in our taking cap back though. Lot of their bigger money players have limited or full NTC's though and I question whether they'd waive for us or leave us off their NTC list.

I'm actually really surprised, the Blues seemingly have very little flex regarding cap they can ship out. Even all their their bigger money D have clauses.

I was surprised to see O’Reilly had no trade clauses

Same, I was trying to dig and see if he had one at one point that he waved for Buffalo but I don't see anything. If I remember correctly teams don't have to honor the clauses on an incoming player and can void them, maybe that happened. Too lazy to dig too hard though. We didn't honor Miller's for example.

But from what I can tell he simply didn't have one.

If we trade Miller why would would we get someone even older? We aren’t winning anytime soon. We need futures.

So we can trade someone for futures? Someone that doesn’t have a 7 year deal attached to their name

I don’t see how these trades could take place in such a short period of time. They messed up by signing Miller, but I don’t think they’re going to trade him for an expiring deal that they MIGHT be able to flip at the deadline. Too many moves.  If they’re going to have the balls to trade Miller, they need to know exactly what they are getting in return, in one deal.

I agree, I wish it was as simple as trading him in the first place. Now we have to potentially trade a 27 year old Horvat instead which sucks.. I figure with this trade we could figure out what’s really going on with this team. Is Miller an issue? I sure do not like his body language when things aren’t going his way.

Maybe this trade is the boost this team needs and we take off? Who knows. It’s always a gamble it seems.

Miller for Parayko + pick? He's only got 2 assists this year, St Louis have lost 7 in a row and are at the bottom of the standings, they've been there before and won the Cup but don't have the quality to do that again.

Maybe Miller + 3rd/Woo/Rathbone even for Parayko + a prospect like Snuggerud or Perunovich

They'd get 1M in cap space even for this year and next year should be able to clear out the extra to keep Miller.

Buy Parayko low, he's 29 years old now but still a big strong 22+ minute defenceman who can play with Hughes for the next 3-5 years comfortably.
