Their team is 1st in every key defensive metric - they make life easy on their goalies and only need average goaltending. NJD already had a solid process in place last season but not the results. They've made savvy adjustments in the off-season and now they are capitalising. Not the same than a team winning on poor process and where results are hardly ever sustainable on the long term. Edler is a 3rd pairing D for LA going up against bottom lines. He played about 2:30 vs McDavid this game at 5v5 and even less against the Draisaitl line. Vanecek is solid and a massive upgrade over blackwood.. vanecek just needs to be solid and doesn't need to be vezina like and New jersey will easily score enough to win.. new jersey last year was they couldn't keep the puck out of the net.. with an upgraded defence and a way better goalie than blackwood they'll easily make the playoff.. vanecek had decent stats for washington more than enough for the devils to make the playoff.. blackwood is actually terrible.. he's only god like against the canucks.
