nameci
There have been a number of trade options with Columbus. To me the focus of many of these options is we give up quality (Horvath) for quantity (Bean, Roslovic, a pick) or some similar combination. What about trading value for equal value? How about a Horvath for Gavrikov trade? Govrikov is a legitimate top pairing, minute eating defenseman. He brings size, 6’3 214 pounds, and some snarl to to an otherwise undermanned defense. It’s true that he is a left side dman, but at 26: years of age he would be a cornerstone on defense for a number of seasons. Do the Blue Jackets want to trade him? Most assuredly not. But if they are indeed interested in acquiring Bo Horvath, this seems to me to be a fair asking price.

nameci
I don’t know is they have the cap space to do that. That’s why I proposed a one for one trade wherethe money for the new contracts would be roughly the same for both teams.
luckylager
I got to "(Horvath)", and am just gonna say no. No
DownUndaCanuck
Gavrikov is great but he's an LD playing like 25+ minutes a night, and we've got Hughes and OEL on the left side so no chance we bump 7M OEL down to 15-17 minutes on a 3rd pairing. I'd love to snag Peeke and he may come a lot cheaper, although I worry they're already lacking defencemen after Werenski's injury. My goal would be Garland for Peeke straight up but they'd have to move cap around, so realistically we'd have to do something like this: Garland + Burroughs or Rathbone for Peeke + prospect/Bemstrom to even the cap up We're not getting a top guy like Roslovic without paying a price, so I'd rather target their lower-tier players who are still quite good. I know Dries and Aman have looked good for us but realistically they don't crack most top team's lineups, so a true 3C would be nice and they have Kuraly sitting there who is a big, strong perfect 3C. If they want defencemen, we could go for something like Garland + Burroughs + Rathbone + 3rd/4th round pick for Kuraly + Peeke. Or if they want more quality, Boeser + Burroughs for Kuraly + Peeke but they'd have to move some cap around (only around 1-2M).
Guest
Could've sworn that I saw videos of Podz and Gavrikov hanging out in the off-season. If we can land Gavrikov, you just do it and figure out the details later. Hughes can play 3rd pairing 5 on 5 minutes and get his usual PP1 ice time to bring him up to 20 mins/night. Easing back on OEL's minutes would be fine too.
nameci
VancouverHabitant, Thanks for your supportive post. Loved your quote, “ you just do it and figure the details out later!” That was exactly my point. All of the lesser trade candidates mentioned as part of a Horvat trade package would be Canucks for two or three years and then just fade away. Gavrikov could be a franchise player who could well be one of the core defencemen in Vancouver for the next decade. I don’t want to trade Horvat, but if we have to, Gavrikov would certainly lessen the hurt.
