dougieL
I've heard people in the media describe this management group as "smart" or "vaunted". These are words that were never close to being used to describe the previous regime. The only person in this current front office with any kind of record of success as a primary builder of a team is Rutherford. Is that enough for the front office to be billed as "smart" and "vaunted"?

Play it his way to show more work is needed. Players moved out at deadline and new coach with a retooled roster for next season. 6 2

Sure, but they had this reputation right off the bat before they even made any moves.

Popular Post hammertime
They slept through the last deadline. Drafted a smurf winger, signed Miller and not Horvat, gave Brock 6.65M, traded a 2nd for Stillman, hired and fired Dorrie in a NY minute, spent to the cap without doing a damn thing about the D, nothing about this regime screams smart. 6 5 2 3 1 3

Signing Miller to 7 years certainly doesn't fit this narrative.

Signing Miller was a standing pat move.

Aquilini wants to win with this roster, keeping this roster together fits what he wants. Ergo keeping it together is working with him to show him you’re willing to play ball. When it blows up in his face you show him his plan isn’t working and now it is his turn to play ball. This isn’t rocket science to follow. 1

But like....... When you get hired to do a job especially a MGMT job do you walk in day 1 and decide to expose your employer. Whats phase 2 make him sell the team? Is FA gonna have an epiphany and decide he needs to fully rebuild and you're the guy to do it because you sure showed him. JR and PA took the job knowing they have a meddling owner. It's still their job to make the team better in spite of that. MG got us to the SCF heck even JB got us more playoff series wins than Toronto in the last 20 years.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s playing Francesco’s way to prove it is not working. JT also isn’t untradeable with term or he can be part of the solution. For all we know he keeps JT and Bo and moves 3 or 4 or more other pieces when he gets to have complete autonomy, or maybe Bo and JT go along with 2-3 others. i don’t think this management team is as inept and stupid as this thread is implying. The Cup wins speak for themselves.
