Not a perfect Deal (Proposal)

Recommended Posts

Ok, this has to be done on a 3 way, and there would have to be other trades made to make it work, but something along these lines............

Horvat to Winnipeg (UFA) - 9th overall in 2009 (1 X $5,500,000) 6'0" 215 lbs  Center

Dubois to Montreal (RFA ) - 3rd overall in 2016 (1X $6,000,000) 6'3" 218 lbs  Center

Dach  to Vancouver (Signed) - 3rd overall in 2019 ( 4 X $3,336,250) 6'4" 212 lbs  RW/Center

This is not a perfect trade, in that Montreal is in Cap hell (worse than Vancouver), but Winnipeg will have to dig deeper for Dubois, as will Vancouver with Horvat. I see Dubois and Horvat being signed and trades. Montreal will have to clear cap.

On the surface, it looks like Montreal would have to add, but Dach is playing near a point a game and he is the youngest, and signed to a cap controlled contract. Montreal does this to get Dubois home. All 3 have near the same point totals this year, with Horvat slightly ahead, but he is oldest. The whole thing could fall apart fast, if Montreal can't move cap.....but there it is!

Value-wise, it's pretty even I think, but I just don't see it happening.

Winnipeg's core is getting older and their window is shrinking, but I don't think adding Horvat and removing Dubois makes them contenders.  More of a lateral move and they get older and will need to carry Horvat's new cap hit.

While I think Dubois will end up in MTL's I don't think they have to move Dach to acquire him, they can just wait until he's UFA, or more likely will trade prospects and picks (they have a ton) instead of an impactful roster player.  They bought low on Dach and right now his value just went up significantly, I don't see them flipping him for Dubois who's going to cost more, when they can have both.

Agreed, I don't see why Montreal does it.  Dach's looked good on their 1st line.
Maybe just something around Horvat for Dubois could work?  Vancouver does need a replacement for Bo if he's priced himself out, and if we trade for PLD at least we wouldn't risk losing him for nothing since we just need to qualify him.  If Winnipeg sees Bo as a secondary offensive weapon that they could need I would readily make that trade, kind of like how the Panthers traded Huberdeau and Weegar who they couldn't afford to get Tkachuk.

The reason, I see this good for Vancouver and Winnipeg is that Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, Winnipeg will not get anyone better than Horvat, and Montreal wants Dubois, Vancouver needs to shed cap, and Dach does that, to the extent of 3 to 4 million a season. The problem as I see it, is Montreal's cap problems. So, that is why I see it as not perfect. If Montreal can work around that, this makes good sense for everyone. Dach is the lesser of the 3 players, but has the best cap hit.

Dach has fantastic chemistry with Suzuki and caufield and is in the same age range.  They arent going to move him after getting him so cheap

Dubois>Dach

Bird in the hand.
Dach is the right age for their core.  He’s signed to an affordable contract for 4 seasons and is still RFA at the end on the contract.

PLD is 3 years older. His contract is up at seasons end and he’s UFA in as little as 2 years. He’s had an history of having effort issues.

Dach is a fit in Montreal AND he was acquired by the current administration.  There’s just no reason for Montreal to move him in favour of PLD

Well, I will give you the flip on this...........

Montreal and Montreal fans have wanted Dubois since his draft year...........at one time he was getting more ink than the Canadians

Dach is doing well, but is not a proven commodity, This is his first year shinning. Dubois, is just not finesse, but has power  also, and that 3 years difference is valuable

I do not think there is any risk in the swap, although, as I stated earlier.......Dach's contract is solid for another 3 years, which makes him as valuable as the other 2

for that reason............

I do not disagree with your points, only giving you a different POV

I dont deny that a lot of Montreal fans want PLD. But that doesn’t mean management shares that interest.  Hughes seems to have a plan and Dach appears to be part of that plan.  Dubois might be a piece they’ll be interested in when/if he hits UFA. But I don’t see them moving Dach and causing cap issues right now to do it when Dach has meshed so we’ll in Montréal

HNs basically traded a top pairing superstar young D for a middle six right wing.  One of the worst trades ever.  Stupid Haberoos!  Makes me laugh.  Love seeing stupid loser moves by teams I hate.
