[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn

They traded Motte even though we were still technically in a playoff race for only a 4th round pick.  So, I don’t see how they would not trade Schenn either as a pending UFA to get an asset back. They blew a 2nd round pick to get rid of Dickinson and a 3rd round pick to get Dermott. So they need to recoup some draft capital.

I think they are just waiting to get the best possible deal for Schenn.

and I'd say they would have been better off keeping Motte

They could have easily brought back Motte if they wanted to.  He was available for cheap all summer long.  He wanted more than what he actually got.  They went in another direction.  Joshua and Lazar have been fine this year.  They are the least of our problems...

Looking at my crystal ball......

The issue right now is Boston wants him but doesn't have a 2nd for the next 2 years. So they are offering a 3rd (late 3rd) which isn't enough, and they wont cough up a decent prospect.

I'd imagine Calgary is offering a 2nd, but we dont want him to go to a rival, even if we are out of the playoff picture. We are hoping both will sweeten their offers.

Toronto may still be in the mix, but tough to say.

If that ends up being their best offer to need to take it, rival or not

I'm really on the fence on whether his value to the Canucks is more than a late 2nd. He does provide some strong veteran leadership, which is needed during these dark times... but if I'm leaning one way or another, its that I am in agreement with you. I would pull the trigger for Calgarys 2023 2nd.

I like Schenn, I like what he brings and I agree that he brings some solid veteran leadership. That being said, I do believe we'd get by alright without him if he didn't circle around and return. But hey, if he likes it here as much as he says he does I could see him doing just that.

As an organization that's repeatedly frittered away 2nd round picks over the past decade I just don't see actually acquiring one and using it as something we can pass up. I'd love to have another 2nd, or to replace the one we sent out, so that we could use it on a good D prospect.

Ok, you've convinced me! Trade him before he gets hurt.

Agreed Spook.  We are a lottery team right now, so there is no excuse to not try and go out and get as many assets as possible, especially from pending UFA's.  The whole problem under Benning was throwing away all of those draft picks for players that didn't pan out.  JR did the same thing with Dermott and threw away a 2nd to get rid of Dickinson.  Now that the team is basically tanking, I think they have changed their tune and are now in asset collection mode.

I really hope so... otherwise they should be fired the lot of them.
As soon as Horvat was out the door, it was evident we were not going to do anything this year.
And the team has already been drifting around under various managers for several years, so changes are needed.
Imagine getting on of the top 3 on ELC contract and then a 5-7 contract for 3 years... it would be massive incentive for QH and EP...

now is the time to stock up on picks and prospects... sell sell sell...

Yeah the Canucks need to be obtaining draft picks.  The team is clearly in no position to pass up on these in any round.

100%. Having 2, first round and 2, second round picks this year will be really good, especially in the 2023 draft class.

We tank on because we have to. I can see Luke Schenn going to a playoff bound team and fitting in with a quality d-core that actually functions. He has been asked to do more than what he was signed to do most nights. Moving him is a no brainer exercise. Quality guy but retaining him or even resigning him has some hard questions to be asked. Canucks are a rebuilding team. They already have vets in Hughes, Meyers, OEL and Bear.

Schenn plays on the RD along with Meyers and Bear. Meyers is a 2RD on a good night but often plays at a 3RD level. Bear is a 3RD almost all nights. We assume that Allvin will bring a RD to the roster by TDL, UFA signing, collegiate signing or by drafting. Only a TDL or UFA signing will likely see NHL action quickly. I can see PA carrying Meyers over to next year and a TDL or UFA signing happening as well. That leaves the 3RD open for Bear or a rookie. If Schenn is resigned I will conclude that the off season was a failure. That said I am not sure if he has played much LD. Would he resign with the likelihood of being a 7/8D?

I hope Schenn can be moved this weekend.

Feels like he's getting the BB treatment as everyone knows his family situation and it is inevitable that Schenn gets moved yet Alvin clings on until he can squeeze out the last drop of blood.

I think they have gone to Schenn and asked him where if any place he would agree to go to. I then think they sign him again in the summer to a 2 year deal
