#[ PROPOSAL] Boeser to Philly?

Recommended Posts

The Vancouver Canucks' defense is inadequate and needs help.

One possible solution is to trade Brock Boeser, whose current cap hit is $6.6 million, for Rasmus Ristolainen,
a hard-nosed right-shot defenseman whose cap hit is $5.1 million. Ristolainen's style of play is similar to
Schenn's, and would improve the team's defense.

Additionally, this trade would give the team the option of unloading Tyler Myers, freeing up even more cap space.

Is this even remotely close to a decent trade in your opinion?

Interesting idea but Risto is a high risk contract with that term. He's young and very unproven, but i'm not sure he will improve in terms of his hockey IQ and therefore we could just be taking on another whipping boy/Myers type player.

There will always be a whipping boy on this team.  It's the nature of being a Canucks fan.
5.1 million over 5 years isn't much really.  Also, he's 28, so if his game drops off a cliff, it would never get to the level of Loui Errikson.

BB6 to Philly is not likely to happen, because he's not a Torts type player.  /end thread

Fletcher is the one who makes the trades.  /re-open thread

Risto is an absolute tire fire in his own zone.  Hard no from me.

His +/1 stats have improved over the past 4 years.  Although he played a lot of minutes in Buffalo, he was middle of the pack in +/1
Their whole team was bad by the way.

The chances he's as bad as Myers is unlikely.  Myers is on par with Andrew Alberts.  Remember the guy that chased the whistle after the puck drop
in 2010?

Good proposal.

Boeser for Monahan?  Hmmm, I like that idea...

Heard that as well on Donnie and Dhali, one year left at $6.375.

They could let him walk at the end of the season and free up cap space, or they could move forward with him as a C (trade one of Miller or Horvat)

Montreal won’t though.  Not unless Vancouver retains 50%   Even then. Monahan has been a great fit in Montreal and being a centre is a big plus.  So they can either re-sign him for less than what Boeser makes , or, move him for futures at the trade deadline.  Boeser isnt really a fit for Montreal

I don't think their style is remotely comparable.

Schenn is a rugged, very physical defenceman who seeks to engage anyone who enters his zone, and who can take care of his defensive responsibilities against almost anyone in the league.  He will stick up for teammates at any and every opportunity.

Risto is, from my observations, primarily a stick-checker with limited shut-down capability.  He won't seek to physically engage anyone let alone anyone who takes liberties with teammates.

Boeser is too slow for Montreal.

Not only that, but with Caufield as their top RW, they have Gallagher and Anderson for the 2/3 slots. Right wing isn’t a position they need to address. Monahan filling their need at C is a far bigger deal

Ristolainen makes Myers look like Larry Robinson.

Averaging 2.7 hits/game and 2.1 blocks/game.

People think Myers is bad, Ristolainen has been dreadful this year under Torts and really struggled. I've always wanted to try and take him and see if a new change of scenery would do him good but we play too loose and offensive to help him. He'd do well on a structured defensive team, not the Canucks.

That being said we could probably buy low, I wouldn't give up Boeser for him, maybe Garland for Risto? Would open up a Myers trade, sure, but it's high risk high reward. There's a good chance we just end up with two bad Tyler Myers, but a chance that Risto gets back to a solid 40 point physical season.
