[Value Of] What would it take to get Connor Bedard

Recommended Posts

Bare minimum: Miller at 50% retained for all years, plus 2023 1st (if we're slated to draft in the top 10), maybe tack on Podkolzin and Lekkerimaki (Petey or Hughes alone might be able to get it done but we'd lose a big piece of the roster by shipping either of them out).

If Chicago wins the draft lottery.

You are probably looking at swapping 1st round picks, our 2nd in 2023, Hughes for Seth Jones (Provided he'd waive his NTC.), Kuz, and Podz.

Chicago gets rid of Jones, gets younger and more skilled, and stockpiles picks.

Honestly under a 1 in 5 chance even if we were dead last, is not great odds.

Realistically unless he pulls a Lindros, it will take a Festivus Miracle. to get him.

That might do it. But would Vancouver really offer that?

I personally wouldn't, but anything less is way too much of a lowball.  I'd say yes to Hughes and consider Petey and any pick after 3 though; as much as I like Michkov we don't need yet another winger, and there's a bit of a dropoff in talent after that.  Bottom line is that it would take a huge overpayment to get anyone to trade Bedard.

Unless our 1st is known to be a top 5 pick this year, I don't think your package gets it done and even then, it may not work. Horvat is a pending UFA and I love Boeser, but he's probably a one-dimensional 2nd line forward right now. Rathbone is a stretch to become an NHL regular. I think any team with that pick likely is a very bad team and will probably just take Bedard, but if they were to be persuaded the conversation would probably either include even more 1st round picks or, more likely, Demko, Hughes, or even Pettersson.

A more realistic offer would be Pettersson and a 2nd round pick. Might even take Petey plus a 1st rounder. There's a chance Bedard isn't any better than Petey, but there's also a real chance he can be the next great after McDavid and win multiple Art Ross trophies.

I would think Bedard is what we need to get over the top. What would it take to pick him up?

if I were gm I would offer this years 1st, next years 1st, Horvat, Boeser, and Rathbone. Do you think that could get it done?

No, Horvat is the only one with real value, Boeser is a wild card, and Rathbone really hasnt dont anything in the NHL.

If I was a GM I would probably consider Petterson, Hughes, and a 1st

I'm not even sure how much a team who lands 1OA should value Horvat given the contract he'll demand and their likely window for contention.

Too late. Would have taken continuing down the path of rebuild we showed we needed at start of year.
Instead we are going to Benning through this and add vets to fill in a roster not talented enough to win everything in an attempt to stay alive in the race long enough to keep revenue high and to land us another mid round pick.
Incremental improvements is the name of our game, get to the middle, stay in the middle, never threaten for a cup.

A 1st overall pick in 2023.

That's the only way to get Bedard, and no team will trade that pick, unless McDavid or Matthews+ is going the other way.

And McDavid and Matthews eat huge cap and are clearly losers.  The team getting Bedard wouldn’t trade him for those two either.

I'm kind of with you here. As much as McBaby and Captain Underpants are amazing players, they haven't won jack. And with the incompetence of their GMs, I'm not sure they ever will. If we were ever able to get Bedard, him and Petey as 1C and 2C would be incredible.
