He’s 2nd on the team in defensive scoring and isn’t being used properly (should be on PP1 to utilize his ability to get pucks on net) So pegging him as the problem is disingenuous.

You are right, he is scoring at a decent rate. Not insinuating that he is a problem but he isn't particularly great at either ends of the ice considering the salary. Make him captain and problem solved. Next time anyone complains about OEL playing like a 5 mil defenceman, we can say, well, the extra 2 mil is for him to captain the Canucks, a job that no sane person wants.

Do you think they don't want to move him after just signing him last summer or that it could make our rebuild timeline potentially too long for their plans? Honestly... I'm just not sure I know what their plans are with him, and I know what I'd like... So I'm not getting my hopes up
DownUndaCanuck
Carolina, Washington and Pittsburgh really make the most sense cap-wise. We can take some dump back, a prospect and a 1st or 2nd. Add Schenn and that's such a strong playoff package for any team. We just fuelled NYI, Pittsburgh see them on their heels, surely they'll want a little boost too. Schenn and Miller can surely snag us Morrow + 1st, or Kapanen, Pickering + 1st.

Yes you got it.When QH is injured OEL looked and played better on pp1 unit.

Still very young though but decent all-around LD who's quite young still. I doubt they move POJ (he's a bit old too and playing on Pitts' 3rd pairing) so Pickering is really all they have left of value.

I still am hoping our 2022 1st rounder can pan out and become something for us it down the road, no need to rush him we have tons of wingers! Would like to see Canucks take a late round flyer on Pickering's teammate and leading scoring a small C named Mathew Ward who is from Kamloops BC I believe. Undersized but had 90 pim last year and over 70pim so far this year so must have some bite to his game
86Viking
Friedman mentioned Carolina and JT Miller, I don't see it and Carolina's track record shows they dont sign big contracts to guys well into their 30s. I could see Boston being interested in JT. JT Schenn for Carlo 2023 1st round pick 2024 2nd round pick

Same, if we want to be competitive building around Petey and Quinn, we’ll need a great vet or two to take pressure of them and mentor the kids. We could do a lot worse than a PPG power forward C who hates losing. The argument that he doesn’t fit our timeline is nonsense. His NTC is for 4 years, that’s exactly our window to become competitive.

I have no interest in dumping him, but if there’s a trade out there that let’s us get younger with a first and an A rated prospect, I’d definitely look hard at it. JT Schenn for Carlo 2023 1st round pick 2024 2nd round pick I suppose the question boils down to whether Carolina was willing to extend Pacioretty or not in a way, Pacioretty is exactly that Pacioretty's older, sure, but even if he got two years that'd take him close to the age Miller would be getting to by the end of his contract Carolina's a contender, they're one of the best defensive teams in the league and are towards the top of the league in several stats They could absolutely use some offensive punch though despite ranking 10th in goals scored, their powerplay is less impressive at 22nd 3rd in the league in shots on goal but 21st in shooting percentage 7th ranked PK, 3rd in goals allowed, 4th in faceoffs One could argue that sooner or later they've got to go for it, they could certainly do worse than JT Miller and Pacioretty's expiring 7M would pay for almost all of his incoming extension

Hard to say, I could see them as being a good fit though, Carolina could use a boost Before Horvat was traded I'd argued he'd be a good fit there as well as they could use an upgrade on Kotkaniemi, they still could as 2C is what I view as their most glaring deficiency Perhaps Miller could be that guy Carolina's actually got some pretty great scoring depth spread throughout their lineup but they could use another weapon up front https://www.capfriendly.com/depth-charts/hurricanes
