Only management has access to the keys that will start the tank.
To get the tank rolling, management needs to dismantle the existing group to a degree that leaves them hapless and destined to lose.
Imo players themselves will not intentionally take a tank into battle regardless of job security.

Most players are interested in stats and $, but their are always exceptions: players that are driven AND had access to (better) $, outside of their salary.  I do agree, that it is a management decision, on what direction the will take - but a bad leadership due to whatever reason(s) will have bad results despite the intention(s).  Always, goes back to the leadership group: it's competency and how malleable it is to the owner.

What makes this extra funny is the fact you misspelled Oscar Mayer as Oscar Meyer when quoting Oscar Mayer. It would be easiest for everyone if they just traded him for futures.

I have a weird sense of humour lol

Do you have a manual or Youtube video available so I can learn how to be a fan?

We should not trade anyone, nor should we change any coaches, or coaching style. We should sing Kumbaya and be happy we are in the bottom third of the league

I'd rather him try to do something in regards to the team than speak to the media. Get something going over the phones. As a fan base we are smart enough to already know the cookie cutter answers we would get anyways. In his position, where the team is at, there is not a lot to say about it.

We have a painfully average hockey team being paid like contenders.

This is spot on... who cares, what he says?

Its not like he'll be telling us the lottery numbers, or who he is going to sell...

He's job is to sort out the mess we're in. Do that, and all the conversations will be a doodle afterwards.

Maybe we can be the first team in pro sports that just doesn't care about points or wins at all. We would be a revelation complimenting our woke style. It should just be about having fun. We put way too much pressure on these guys to beat other teams, score goals, and don't get scored on. Who cares what the score is really? The headlines should read 'Players in Van have fun last night', and JT Miller sports new haircut', Myers does perfect snow angel 10/10'. You could see it in the practice vid today. The players were having fun, and that's all that matters. Pro sports shouldn't be about winning and losing. It should be about how good you look out there, did you help out the opposition when they fell, and maybe see if you can make it through the game without sweating so we can save the environment by doing less laundry ... and using cold water of course.

In order to understand the tank and its implementation it is important to first study its construction.
Management, under direct orders of ownership, will have the team
brought in to a bunker after a trial run of 6-12 months. Here , in a safe and secure environment far from the public’s prying eyes , the team will be carefully studied for signs of premature wear and poor design. In particular, manufacturers defects will be singled out and flagged for replacement.

Once analyzed the team will be broken down into individual components and discarded as required. Any equity worth retaining will be put in dry storage for future considerations.

The illustration below demonstrates the key tank components and is colour coded as to purpose and usefulness.image.jpeg.70af1e8e5cab9cc6685661023e18c4e5.jpeg

Green items are valued yet will serve little to no purpose in ongoing operations other than to provide a chassis to attach the remaining parts to and fire the odd volley of munitions at the opponent. Please note that the munitions barrel is intentionally mis-aligned.
The parts coded brown provide the inconsistent and underpowered traction preventing the tank as a whole from ever really getting anywhere. Effectively stuck in the mud .

Grey represents the throw away items that will be beaten, trod on. neglected and eventually relinquished to the used/spare parts warehouse.

Once reassembled by management and approved by ownership the ‘destined to fail’ machine will be returned to field service with a life expectancy of 2 years. There it will be subjected to the most horrendous and spirit breaking times imaginable. It’s sacrifice will not be in vain as from its ashes of the final battle will arise a new tank… a better tank… a tank built for VICTORY!

No, the players aren't going to stop trying. That's why it'll likely take a larger trade, like a Horvat trade, for us to truly bottom out.

Bedard ain't likely even if we do, but drafting top five would be great.

A tank isn't getting the players to stop trying, it's management moving players out or structuring their roster in a way that makes them less competitive. The Canucks haven't set out to tank, their roster simply isn't structured very well, their defense and team defense isn't very good, and they simply haven't played very well outside of the offensive zone for much of the season.

We seem to play by a different rule set than others teams. It's almost like we feel obligated to spend as much money as possible putting out the best team possible every single year, even when deep down we know it's futile. Meanwhile other teams accept reality and trade players when they are aging and don't fit their cycle, acquire draft picks, save cap space, take a step back, regroup, cultivate youth, and play the game the way it is supposed to be played. It's hard to compete when you let all your competitors have a huge edge.

Other teams, especially the US teams aren't the dominant teams in their market. If they suck for a few years it won't matter vs them being so so. They need to be championship quality to get the locals excited. Canadian teams are always under the microscope. Its another bs side effect of teams in dumb places. Carolina gives no crap about the canes until the playoffs

1 question.

People seem to think we would tank on purpose to get Bedard. Possible? Maybe...

Do you think any team (Players) would roll that dice to get a good player on the team...as that player will most likely take your spot. lol

I Didnt Seth Meyers GIF by Late Night with Seth Meyers

i don't think anyone actually suggested that the team would purposely tank...what you stated is the obvious.

more just wishful thinking for a fanbase who's gone through a lot this season.

Yup.  I sometimes listen to ESPN New York.  They rarely talk hockey.  And if they do it’s a bit about the Rangers.  Rarely the Sabres.  Never heard mention of the Devils. It’s like they don’t even exist.  And that’s supposed to be a hockey market.  The league needs the Canadian teams to be making money to cover for the terrible US markets losing bushels.

I've lived in dallas, near raleigh and now just outside DC. The caps definitely have the biggest fanbase of those 3 but the commanders (former rskins) still dominate even though they truly suck. Stars were way behind mavs, cowboys of course everywhere. Canes were so far behind that the miami hurricanes were more famous. Saddest thing is that they've all won the cup.

.but nice try defending Uncle Jim and his few remaining disciples

Don't know what you think you read but the original poster characterized this team as a Benning production. I then pointed out that Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, Studnicka, Joshua, Lazar, Bear, Dermott and Delia were not Benning acquisitions, and the team still sucks. So I don't see how you concluded that I was defending Benning. Responsibility for the sorry state of this team is shared by many, not JUST Benning and Green. That's all. No more, no less.

Spent least 2 years in all btw. Tasty unhealthy food but little hockey love. Spent a year in montana too, have lived in all US mainland timezones except the west funnily enough.

Don't use me as an example of an educated american hockey fan though, still got lots to learn and not a US citizen.

Off the top of my head... Edler in LA (hell Edler here when we started to improve towards the bubble). Dickinson's been fine in CHI. Hell even Gudbranson went on to play well in CAL when put in an appropriate role, with an appropriate partner. Sam F'ing Gagner is even playing well in WPG this year!

There's a shite tonne more to building a team than just collecting talent. You actually have to form an identity and have chemmistry/cohesiveness, complementary skill sets etc. We do not have any of that.

Like how Tanev was the perfect partner for Hughes?  We miss that guy A LOT.
