This is how you lose the trust of the players and ultimately lose credibility across the league.

The new medical team and athletic therapists they hired this past summer have already screwed up majorly, potentially costing Pearson's next contract signing in the NHL.

JR and Allvin have done a very poor job 13 months into their tenure. I have zero faith in this new management and organization as a whole.

It can be back dated but the only real effect that has is with his elligible return date. The days and games missed while on IR would count towards his return date from LTIR. Players on LTIR still count towards the cap. The only difference is you can exceed the cap by his salary. Back dating the start date of LTI doesn't create additional cap space.

Thanks for clarifying. Since we have zero cap space, does this mean we can take on $3.25M cap in a waiver pickup or trade?

Not including Demko (back soon presumably), we should have $9.25m of available LTIR overage (Poolman, Pearson and Ferland) and according to Capfriendly, we're currently using $4,721,546 of it.

So we should be able to absorb +/- $4m (depending on how well we're maximizing our LTIR anyway).
