CanuckFan1123 Posted January 22, 2023 Share Posted January 22, 2023 I think the crappy thing for Tocchet is that he is going to be coming in at a horrific time when the fans are fully rebellious towards management. The fans really like Bruce. Tocchet is going to be wildly unpopular with the fans at least the rest of this season and maybe beyond. Loved them as players, maybe they can bring some defensive structure to our team but what's their coaching history? We had no idea how good we had it with AV as head and Rick Bowness as assistant. Every team Bowness has been on instantly becomes a contender, look at the path he's carved out. IMO best, most underrated coach in the business. Understanding people will be jaded by the hire no matter what you can still look to what Tocchet demands as a coach. His style is all about a structured responsible physical and no quit mentality and most importantly accountability. He actually was able to tighten up the defense and squeeze a weak roster in Arizona getting them a Playoff round win as well. But yes Tocchet will be able to pinpoint the players who bring it versus coast through. That much will happen. So I guess getting started now could lead into the off season plan of where to take this team in terms of personnel. Again people will be hurt about Bruce for sure but Tocchet would be the type of coach the team had wanted since JR and PA came aboard. They never said otherwise whether people wanted to listen or not. The outrage here is 99% emotion and love tor Bruce. As has been said elsewhere its not like management strung him along for a season and a half. He had his chance and could not or would not provide the coaching the team wants.
