Popular Post OldFaithfulCap
Media TV: Sportsnet Pacific, CBC (HNIC), CityTV, Hulu+ (USA, Canucks feed yes!) Radio: Sportsnet 650 Overview It's Hockey Day in Canada but all I can think of is the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. This slow Vancouver shipwreck season started in Edmonton, the Canucks taking a 3-0 lead and then giving up 5 goals and we've been slowly watching the water rise all season. Post-season hopes are lost and according to the media vultures we're at the point where Bruce can say "Fellas, it's been good to know ya". The post-game chats are staggering in themselves and it will take an incredible salvage expert to restore some dignity to this organization if they do farewell the coach. Hockey-wise, the offense is slowing. The huge totals that some Canuck players were on track for have dipped back to reality. Pettersson showed his elite skill last game but teams have been zeroing in on him for weeks and roughing him up. A bright spot has been Quinn Hughes who has been skating to the net where he's a lot more dangerous compared to firing nerf bullets from the blueline. Kuzmenko has also been in good form, and hopefully he will be teamed with Mik and Pettey tonight. On the other side OEL has shown no improvement since his scratching and Garland and Boeser are struggling to show their trade value. It should be Martin's turn to start in net but i get the feeling that Bruce will put out Delia if it's his last behind the bench. The Oilers come into town buzzing on a 5-0 run. Besides their big guns (McDavid and Draisaitl both have 5 goals in 5 games) they have had goals from their depth forwards and are looking to take LA's spot as 3rd in the Pacific and escape the wildcard zone. Campbell has been on a good run, winning his last 5 game as well and averaging just over 2 goals a game over that span. Too much hockey is barely enough was something I believed in during the WCE and AV days but i'm glad that the Canucks next game after tonight is on Tuesday. MATCH-UP INFO Last 5 games - Miller (2g, 3a), Hughes( 2g, 5a), Horvat (1g, 3a), Garland (1g, 0a), Boeser (1g,2a), Pettersson (2g,3a), Kuzmenko (1g, 4a) OEL since scratching (4 games ago) - 0 points, -4, 1 hit, 2 blocked shots, 1 takeaway Tonight marks the third and final meeting between the Canucks and Oilers this season: Oct. 12 (5-3 L @ EDM), Dec. 23 (5-2 W @ EDM) and Jan. 21 (home). Popular Post -DLC-
I'm going to the game. Wearing my BRUCE mask and going to chant so this coach knows he was appreciated (and loved) here. He gave us hope last year and this group was re-energized with him on board. Wasn't enough to keep him here, but he hardly had a good sample size. Hope some of those new assistant coaches also get put under the microscope too. While I don't disagree with changing coaches when it's not working, there's a way to do that to ensure there's dignity and respect shown in the process. This is totally missing the mark. 4 4 7 1 2

D.B Cooper
I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but the tank is just too strong to fight. Go Oilers Go. Lol. That felt gross typing that, but these are the points we need to lose. Couple nice goals from Petey and Kuz, then our garbage goalies and defence blowing the rest of the game. Perfect.
OldFaithfulCap
No morning skate for Van. Edmonton unlikely to change much being on a 5-0 streak. Will update lines tonight as needed, probably Martin to start.

I love that he's being remembered but feel this jumping on board the Gino train is premature...let the team have our night (first) then maybe afterward. Gino is being honoured at the game on March 2...feel like they could've waited for that. But no, strike while the iron's hot I guess. (I'm so bitter/negative right now...gotta get outside and work some of this out!) 1

Popular Post Canuckfanforlife82
You know the only thing that bothers me about yesterdays postgame was the players saying it really got to us. Really! Last night got to you? When you guys could have played hard the whole year and changed this result. It was in their hands to change things. This poor me, well it got to us. Maybe start playing a heck of a lot better for your coaches and not give management the chance to fire them. So many coaches, they should feel bad they are PART of the reason and a big reason he is being let go. The second time in the last year where they haven't played well and have contributed to someone getting fired. It would have been nice to hear a player say we put him in this position and I feel awful. I don't disagree that Bruce isn't the right coach but once you make the change, please change some of these players out. No more poor me. YEGCanuck
IMO to have any chance to win tonight's game you've got to focus on McDick. I know, I realize that is easier said than done. Having seen many of the Oil games this is how I would coach. Put a player to shadow him, make it a team assignment. A key is to take the body as soon as he receives the puck. Whenever you can take the body, hit hard and forget about the puck. Finally don't forget about Drai, you can't leave him alone. If the Oil are on the power play assign 1 guy each to McDick and Drai and let the other 2 defend the other three players. There you go, it's just that simple. That's free advice, make it happen boys.

Popular Post -DLC-
Hockey Day in Canada. The last memory of my Mom when she was still "with us". I've told it before. She was in palliative dying of brain cancer. Was not "with us" mentally any more and was barely hanging on physically. She did still recognize me, but thought my son was my ex. Thought her parents, (who'd died 20 years earlier) were still here. Etc. I crept into her dark hospital room...curtains closed, lights off. She was sleeping. I snuck the little hospital TV on...muted. Canucks. Pulled the arm of the TV so it was close to me but it was still in view of Mom. I think the light from it may have disturbed her. She stirred, then tried to sit up, squinting at the TV. All of a sudden she said "is that Trevor Linden?" It was. I was floored! I held her hand as a tear rolled down my cheek and we shared one of our final moments together. This was her team. Dammit. FTR we beat the Leafs 6-1. 12 3
