[Report] Canucks fire Bruce Boudreau, Trent Cull; name Rick Tocchet as head coach, Adam Foote as assistant coach, Sergei Gonchar as defensive development coach

Whatevs. I'm not a fan of how it was handled at all, but it is done. Time to move forward and look at bright sides. Horvat about to be traded too... so I'm going with the following:

• Defense wins hockey games. 
• Nice guys don't factor into winning much. We've had lots of "nice".. Sedins, Horvat, very clean, professional, say-the-right-thing kind of guys... Bruce Boudreau too (although to his credit, he has won a championship). They're guys who are easy to get behind, but that trait doesn't translate into winning cups. Sometimes you need guys who aren't the classiest to win. Sometimes perhaps you may need former gambling cons, folks who prioritize doing whatever it takes to win. It feels a little darker, a little sleazier, but maybe this might be what we need?

Dreger said the reason Tocchet has to wait 4 weeks to get out of the TNT deal was be because of money. He squeezed them for a fat paycheck and they said that's fine. But you can't just leave on a moment's notice. So that's why all of this happened

Coaching bump paired with the easiest schedule over the last part of the season. This management needs to start making moves asap or this team is going to finish in 12 place and draft 13th...

I think once Bo is gone, the last of the Country Club atmosphere will be gone, and the new direction will finally be looked at. 

Those who were hired have experience winning championships, looking forward to the changes as it has been a long time coming.

In some ways, I don't mind that.  Drafting high is great, but the trend of huge, long term contracts on their second deals makes building a winner through the draft almost impossible

Foote has zero professional coaching experience and only ever coached 1 'meh' season in the WHL when his son was on the team.

 

Gonchar only has coaching experience with one other NHL team, of which he was a former player.

 

Tocchet has a career losing record as an NHL coach.

None of them have experience winning championships at the coaching level.

Could have just given Yeo the reigns in the interim. They were cowards.
