[Report] Canucks fire Bruce Boudreau, Trent Cull; name Rick Tocchet as head coach, Adam Foote as assistant coach, Sergei Gonchar as defensive development coach

I feel for Tocchet, ngl. I am sure he's a fine person or whatever. Listening to his presser he seems likeable. But the situation hasn't sat right with me and honestly my anger has turned to immense disappointment. I just struggle really hard supporting the team and it's no fault of Tocchet. This season has been a major stain on the franchise for me. I get the riot happened, but that was outside the organization. That was fake fans and crazies taking advantage of a situation.

This though, this is the people charged with our team conducting themselves very poorly and tastelessly. I still hate what happened with Boeser on Hockey Fights Cancer night. I am not thrilled with the Horvat situation. I wanted Miller gone so we can keep our captain. That looks unlikely unless we grossly overpay Horvat. The Boudreau situation might be the most egregious. Stringing him along for over a month like that. Not letting him ride out the season with dignity. Publicly complaining about the length of his contract. Then deflecting blame like "It's all because of speculation." What? During the presser Patrik "this is the second time in his time here I heard him speak" Allvin was like "This morning we decided to make a coaching change." Don't bullsh*t us. THERE WAS LITERALLY A FAN SEND OFF FOR BOUDREAU LAST NIGHT. Like, you decided this morning but literally everyone knew? Management is a disgrace.

Our franchise is a joke and I have no pride in being a Canucks fan right now. It's sad when it's not the fans making you disappointed in the team, but the team itself making you disappointed. Cause they're charged with running the team I cheer for. I gotta hope these guys do well? I can't hope they fail, cause that'll be another decade long run of terrible. But if they do succeed, then it in the minds of some/many justifies how terrible they've been as people. Like, I dunno. I may be overdramatic right now. It's just been a very rough 8+ years.

Got through about 20 pages and it's pretty clear there's a handful of perspectives on all this and a few variations of each

The one that baffles me the most is that there seems to be quite a few who are hoping these coaching changes will result in more wins between now and the end of the season than what we would've seen from Boudreau and co.

Why is this the case? I'm so confused. It's become dreadfully clear we have zero chance of making the playoffs or going anywhere in them even if we fluked out and snuck in the back door.

Do a great many fans here not understand how the draft lottery works? Are there message board members who don't watch the IIHF world junior tourney every year or failed to see the highlights of Bedard from this year's gold medal win?

What planet am I on?

I've NEVER lobbied for team tank before but this is THE YEAR to do so. How is it we're not all on board with this?

GoGoat Sports.  And they wonder why they can't get a media pass...

I’m sure the players don’t want him in there.

If his questions are as dumb as his tweets they probably get real tired of him and his toxic vibes.

100%, we need to ship off players now for picks/prospects and just see how close to #1 we can get.

I remember the Hunter Shinkaruk trade thread had hit 100 pages in 8 hours.

Oh boy. Probably talking about how we got a top 10 steal at pick 24 I bet…

He used to be allowed in the rink and was at the pressers at one point.  And I do remember that he used to ask the dumbest questions...

If these guys actually win us the Stanley Cup then nobody will remember what happened these last few weeks.  I can guarantee it.  For all of the noise that is happening now, this pales in comparison to when Pat Quinn got fired and Trevor Linden and Pavel Bure got traded.  I mean like it's not even close.  That Keenan/Messier era was the worst of the worst.  But guess what?  Eventually, it brought us the Sedin era and we went to another cup finals.  And had the best of times.  I am sure we will have better times ahead.  This is all a blip in the bigger picture IMO...

Yup.  Heck the Benning “shocking reset” was a lot more worse for our club’s on ice performance.  And as a fan, that’s what I mostly care about.  Just build a winner.

I remember being optimistic about the trade Granlund looked pretty good at the time too. I can’t remember my user name back then but would be kind of cool to check

Bo for Wright

Schenn for Cal Foote

Kuz Missile for a couple seconds.

Moves that take us back a step, so we can later leap far ahead of where we currently are and sustain that position with smart drafting.

For all of the talk that has been going on, I think alot of people have missed that one important point.  At the end of the day, this entire thing is about winning the Stanley Cup.  Allvin was 100% correct.  Last time I checked there was no banner up in the rafters that says Stanley Cup champion.  Until that happens, this is all noise to me.

You may not like JR, Allvin or Tocchet, but at the very least you have to admit that they have actually won the Stanley Cup.  Same with Adam Foote and Sergei Gonchar.  It's no guarantee that they will bring a cup to Vancouver, but last I checked nobody else has either up until this point, so I am willing to give them a chance and putting all of my feelings aside on everything else.  I have listened to the Vancouver media since the Tony Gallagher days, so I am used to all of this stuff, and don't really care what they say anymore.

I mean if we want, we can put a cup banner up on Roger's tomorrow. Not like other teams hadn't done it. Pretty easy job for JR and Co there.

(Looking you Seattle and Ottawa.)

Well if this JR thing doesn't work out, that could be an option for Aquilini.  We could have a BC holiday for it, put up the 1915 banner and everyone takes the day off.  Would be a great distraction to current events...

So well said! And, Allvin was correct when he said that…I don’t understand why so many are getting their knickers in a knot over that comment! Sadly, it’s the same people that b**** & complain that we haven’t won anything. Some just don’t like hearing the facts or the truth it seems…out of sight, out of mind I guess.

I would do those deals in a heartbeat.

Try and squeeze a 2nd or 3rd with Bo.

Foote is that type of RHD we really need, he has not really had a good opportunity at Tampa to prove himself.

Make sure that Wright is coached to focus on a 200 foot game, not just scoring.

Kuz might get us a late first with a contender.

I have put a lot of effort into scouting this draft and there is some potential gems even into the early part of the second round.

Callan Foote would be a no brainer.  He's not used much in Tampa right now.  6'4" and 227 pounds.  His father could turn him loose and into a beast.  At the very least he would be first choice on the PK and can clear the front of the net.  He could be the ideal partner for Hughes.  A bigger and younger version of Luke Schenn.  We could always re-sign Schenn in the summer and he can help Callan next year.
