this management group is beyond recognizing a fire in the score clock ..  and this is an example of deflecting blame on to others who were not culpable.

And Faber said the negativity shown from twitter LOL

O no the fans from twitter

Lisening to the presser I do have some confidence in Rick, he's saying all the right things, had always been a personable guy in the locker room, worked in media so might be able to handle the Vancouver pressure and preaches good defence first which I hope will fix Miller, Myers and OEL's leaky game.

However that's all in theory. I'll take 1 or 2 goals off our offence a night if it means our PK improves to middle of the league and we stop more than 3.5GAA nightly.

JR's comments were rubbish but you can see that he's trying to build a winning culture. Timing wise this makes no sense, what are they possibly playing for now? You know we're out of reach by now, this move should have been made around Christmas to still give it a shot. Now we're just playing for stats.

Today was a low ebb in the history of the franchise IMO. Allvin didn’t come across well. Basically lies to everyone about the decision to fire Bruce, everyone knew, including the media who reported it a week ago! He played us all as fools. Decision was made today huh? Tocchet just happens to be in town? What a crock! Allvin says they’re building a winning culture? Sure. That’s why the team has sucked on the ice and one of his AGM is involved in a human rights complaint? Sure. Let’s go with that Patrik. I don’t trust this management group. Until they accept the reality of their situation and meaningfully rebuild PROPERLY they’re living in a parallel universe.

Its the job of the media to sell itself. Friedman owes us nothing, he isn't part of the Vancouver media market. Its his job to be an "insider" and break stories, that's what he gets paid to do. He also isn't reliant on the Canucks to sell his stories like some of the reporters who specifically cover the Canucks, so he doesn't care about hurting anyone's feelings on the Canucks.

As you mentioned in your post JR has been part of this league for decades, has he never heard of Lou Lamoriello? Why does the guy run such a tight ship, if not to avoid situations like these? He doesn't feed the reporters even an ounce of information. There is speculation that at the draft he broke off a deal with the Canucks after he felt that information had been leaked. That takes dedication and sacrifice, Lou isn't well loved by the media. They don't write puff pieces about him. I feel like JR's "candidness" was him liking the sound of his voice and it also speaks to a level of arrogance. Why are you out there criticizing the coaching when you have done a piss poor job of improving the team's biggest weakness, the defense?

Is JR so naïve that he wouldn't understand how his answers would be perceived? If so I am even more concerned about him running this team. There was a much easier way of handling this as people have already mentioned, let Boudreau go right after the story leaks, and announce that Yeo was the interim coach. Instead JR decides that he is going to let his "friend" Bruce twist in this wind... What you are blaming the media for also lays at the feet of our management. I have literally never heard of an organization continuing to trot out a coach who the media has already announced has been fired with a replacement named. Can you?

All fair points and I generally agree. I’m not countering you. I think you have to have a huge ego as well as quasi-sociopathic traits to want to be and accept the role of President of a billion dollar corporation, and JR has been successful in that position, so makes sense.

I’m not displacing fault from the feet of mgmt. this has been a shit show. But there imho is just as much fault with the handling of the coverage of this fiasco.

one thing to ponder…kind of F’d up if you really think about it:

the media “rallying” behind a coach so much to be respectfully addressed (aka fired) when the only thing that man wants is more time to coach. to the very last second possible.

“walked out to the electric chair”.

nice one Marek. probably really proud of that remark.

if it’s a foregone conclusion by pundits and media that Bruce is going to be replaced, then feck off, let the process unfold, and agree to step away from the story out of respect.  Don’t pressure him for emotion when you know how much of it already exists. At least allow him as much time to do what he loves without pundits patronizing it as part of the guise to sell their own commentary to the mass market.

but they can’t do that. They have to bleed it dry and peck away like vultures.

I understand their role. But they dont report, they shape stories. And everyone bought this up because they wanted a target for frustrations and “almighty” answers for why such a good guy is being canned.

The answer is everybody failed and even Bruce at his best did too.

It sucks, the media could have framed the truth but they didn’t. What they framed was a typical martyr and scapegoat story which in pro sports is a lock to catch fire.

Tocchet claimed numerous times in the presser that he wanted the rink to become a safe place for the players. Who do you think, after recent experience, they would need to be sheltered from?

That’s blatantly obvious - and it sure as shit ain’t Ryp!

Or maybe we’re being purposely managed into a solid draft position now? Wouldn’t that sound good for once? I believe that’s the intention.

Callan Foote would be a no brainer.  He's not used much in Tampa right now.  6'4" and 227 pounds.  His father could turn him loose and into a beast.  At the very least he would be first choice on the PK and can clear the front of the net.  He could be the ideal partner for Hughes.  A bigger and younger version of Luke Schenn.  We could always re-sign Schenn in the summer and he can help Callan next year.

I dunno. I would rather retire than play for my father. Depends on the relationship

I was thinking the same thing until he said he really likes Yeo and he is going to be given autonomy, and King is a really good coach as he is in charge of the PP.

Our assistant coach having his son on the team could create a conflict of interest.

I mean at least for Cal Foote since he’s a defenseman himself. Nolan Foote is a forward so I doubt there’s much COI.

Would have been nice to see a potential Schenn for Foote trade with Tampa being rumoured at looking into Schenn.

Maybe Adam Foote's coaching skills have improved since he was fired by the Rockets but I'm not sure there's much evidence of that.

Sergei Gonchar was let go by the Penguins in 2020 and hasn't coached since.

Both were great players but they have not had success as coaches so these moves look a bit like papering over the cracks. Time will tell.
