Kuz Missile is as good as gone.

Mistake in my opinion

The ballsy move (but right one) is put Miller back at center, and give him the type of wingers that gave him a ton of success last year (a garland and pearson) and have petey center kuzmenko and mikheyev.

Then take your horvat savings and go get a shutdown 3c and rebuild the 3rd line with penalty killing specialists that can also be your matchup line. Home games, thats the line you play against mcdavid, and let petey and miller lines go to work against other teams weaker lines.

Tocchet also commented that Foote taught him something in practice about how the D deals with wingers exiting the zone, or something like that. They have a wealth of knowledge on what it takes to win a Cup as a Dman in the NHL. I think Gonchar and Foote will help the D core a lot.

Rutherford - won 3 Cups as a GM

Allvin - won 3 Cups (scouting)

Tocchet - won 3 Cups (2 as a player, one as an A/coach)

Gonchar - won a Cup (player)

Foote - won 2 Cups (player)

This is a heck of a management/coaching team, and eventually they'll get the Canucks there

i really wish Bruce could have just stayed on til the end of the year.  I honestly think he'd have wanted to if given the choice, even if his firing was already decided.

Then we'd definitely still be scrambling around in our own zone, and swallowing 5 goals a game and sliding closer to Bedard every game.

This is a lose lose now.

If Tocchet pokes the team into performing above the level they have been defensively.  Probably unsustainable with players trying to impress, but enough to push us out of a bottom 10 finish.  Lose

if Tocchet tries his best, system after system tweeks, then screams, then bag skates, then benchings, and the team still is allowing more goals than most any other team, then it doesn't bode well for Tocchet being the solution, and we will all know he has at least 2 more seasons here.

Obviously even if that second thing happened, next season would entail whatever JR does for the defense at the TD and the post season, and also Tocchet would have more experience with this group and have a better sense on what is needed.  But if he doesn't have much success in the next 4 months, It still won't be a great omen.

So I don't know if I want to cheer for Tocchet to be a raving success or not.  :(

This has got to be one of worst times to be a fan.

I mean management can certainly help with the “tank” by giving Tocchet less quality of players to work with ie trading Horvat, Garland, Schenn, and perhaps Kuzmenko (though I’d rather keep him tbh)

Of course there are skater moves; I agree.  But tell our owner that.

Maybe?  But I’m thinking it means we aren’t trading anyone from our key core five.

What about the “ major surgery” as opposed to the minor surgery they initially thought would be needed

Yes. Miller can hold the fort until the center we draft in 2023 is ready to take over as 2C (or 1C). Then he can shift back to wing.

They just concluded a new round of tests including an MRI. Turns out we only had a sprained ankle and knee. And some tendinitis. We should be good to go in a few weeks.
