The Wild only have some 10M in cap space with a roster of 14 per CapFriendly (who already take into account the projected 1M raise to the cap). Remove Greenway and replace him with Horvat at 8M would give them 5M to complete a roster of only 14 players. Even if they drop to 21 players instead of the standard 23 that's not even the 775K league minimum next year for each player (and some of the players they plan to bring back are going to get more than that). Guerin has already announced that they will need to clear cap this coming off-season. Greenway seems the most likely to go along with Goligoski who has a full NMC but they would likely want futures in return. Not sure that's the kind of return the Canucks would want either - they still want to compete on the Pettersson/Hughes timeline. Those prospects are quite a few years away while it sounded they are looking more for young roster players or close to NHL ready. Greenway's effort is really uneven and he doesn't always use his size + he plays with 2 guys with impeccable work ethic and hasn't been very good away from that line. They have lots of cap space this year, lots of prospects and picks and no cap space next year. They can't resign either of them for next year, which means they will both hit FA and we can resign them. Especially if we have a handshake agreement in place before hand. Absolutely, 14M in dead cap is insane, and we think JB did a bad job... Nuts that they have so much dead cap and are 1 point out of a playoff spot with 2 games in hand though.
