Zegras said what to Troy Stecher? Does trash-talking in this sport cross the line?

Apparently it wasn't about Stecher's dad but still something that 'crossed the line':

It appears I was wrong, assuming of course that Stecher isn't trying to protect one of the league's golden boys. Lesson to us all that we shouldn't rush to conclusions without hearing all of the facts.

as much as I hate to say it, the league has been far more effective in policing the game than enforcers ever were.

Then why is Matthew Tkachuk still in the league?  At least Bertuzzi made sure Moore never gave another cheapshot after he gave him what he had coming.

Early knee jerk reaction by the Canuck faithful. Love to see it. Twirling your finger in the air is not a signal for the afterlife as far as I know. Unless a new Bible came out and it exists in a tornado. But whatever.

I know we like to pretend players around the league will sort Zegras out. But it didn't sort out literally any of the trash talkers of days past. I would love nothing more than to see Stecher lay his ass out though. I don't have a problem with Zegras, but I do love some frontier justice. Talk sh*t get hit.

I hope the league doesn't take any action here.

It'd be better for Stecher to lay him out next time they meet.

Even if they don't, there arguably already is a sort of action being done in terms of a hit on Zegras' reputation.

That being said, the real question would be whether or not Zegras has learned from this. If he has, then no more action is needed. If he hasn't, then there's a point where action probably will be needed at some point because then clearly doing nothing solves nothing.

Ultimately, what do we want out of this? For this kind of behaviour to not exist in the game, right?

If Zegras didn’t say that. Then why won’t they elaborate and clear Zegras name? People are saying Zegras saying something like he’s washed up and watch the game from up there in the press box lol if that’s the case the ref gave him a 10min misconduct? What he said clearly have no place in the game.. and his teammate clearly was disgusted at what he said..

A team source could be anyone....protecting their golden boy.

You can see him mouthing something and pointing upward. I'm not convinced because the Ducks people are saying it wasn't about his Dad...Stech lost it. And if it was something really bad and Zegras was penalized it doesn't erase the fact that he's an ass. I mean, even before he mouthed off he crosschecks someone in the back of the head when they're down? Loser move.

His ego appears to be swelling and his antics reflect that. Hope he reels it in...pretty boy needs to learn some manners and how to be humble.

Wow, Zegras going from wunderkind to Brad Marchand... I mean making fun of the opponent or doing the Kesler "tell Kelly I said hi" could be construed as funny but this is over the line, no matter how you slice it really.  It's basically salting an emotional wound that's never going to really heal, and a low blow by a talent like that on just a run of the mill scrum.  Pretty much unwarranted and a bad look for him.

if thats his comfort zone of trash talking in a lotto game 47 games into the regular season... imagine if he ever made the playoffs.

Obvious NHL PR coverup. We all saw Zegras pointing to the sky and the Canucks faithful know Stecher far too well.

Yeah, funny.....no one's come out to deny it (Zegras?) other than a "heard it through the gravevine via "a team source". Sure, ok.

He likely said it and he's trash. Trying to get an upper hand with something like that is lowlife stuff. What a detached brain...all that hair flipping is creating problems.  An entitled pretty boy who's let his ego get out of hand and swell to ridiculous proportions. Even his all star deal...he's a big bloody show off. A good player, sure...but show some humility. Respect. How you conduct yourself factors in and if you're an egomaniac you lose some lustre. He may need some work off the ice because he seems so full of himself.

Cross checking a guy who's down in the back of the head isn't a good look either.

It's a shame it happened in a tie game so Stecher couldn't feed him a knuckle sandwhich. Though I am happy the game went into overtime and 2 teams below us each got points.

Apart from his stick handling skill I've always found Zegras to be way over hyped. Gets 1st line minutes, probably all the power play time he wants and still nowhere near a point a game.

The guy's a little high on his own supply.

Not gonna defend him cause he likely said something pretty low but he was probably pointing up to the scoreboard…

I'm giving Zegras the benefit of the doubt to learn from this, similar to Burrows with O'Sullivan.  He's not the first young player who's needed the vets to tell him where the line is and he won't be the last

Or the tootoo incedent which ended up being investigated albeit nothing happened other than willie desjardens telling him to tone it down. Tootoo wanted to end the incedent on the ice at the time and burrows refused and ended up going with Dorsett.(chicken $hit)  And it’s not like burrows never made accusations himself about being treated unfairly. Loved the guy but he crossed the line a few times.

Got to say, have to give Zegras the benefit of the doubt, pointing upwards could mean anything here. Sadly the fans will never find out until maybe way down the line. I'd think if there's no fight next game it's more doubtful too.
