[Rumour] Canucks getting calls on Thatcher Demko

Recommended Posts

Trading Demko

would be a big mistake.
If you didnt experience the goalie grave yard era before bobby lou came here.

you just don’t get how bad it can be and how hard it is to get a good goalie. (Just ask the oilers…)

It would be interesting what sort of return that would be to make it worthwhile.

Demko

Rathbone

Hoglander

3rd round pick

for

Blomqvist

Kapanen

Pickering

Top 10 protected 1st round pick (or 2024)

Kapanen is a player our brass is familiar with and is not adding value to the Penguins right now.  They don’t lose anything off their roster for a playoff run.

Another move where we would have to take money like this back to make it work with a term expiring so we are ready to clear the deck after next season to “retool” Their 1st round pick is quite likely to be late, whereas our 3rd will be really early, so not like dropping two full rounds.

Pickering isn’t the right D we are looking for, but is a very good prospect

We don’t need to be throwing Rathbone and Höglander in there like that.

Honestly I am not sure.

I have concerns about his injuries.

I like Demmer a lot but if we trade him I wont decide if good or bad I will just see how it plays out.

Could see it going either way. But we are missing info to evaluate fully.

I'd trade Demko.  I think he will be on the downhill by the time we are building back up.

To LA for Durzi, 2023 1st, Peterson (cap dump)

Durzi becomes our best RD by a mile, 1st would be in the 15-20 range as well.

Yeah it can, and I would caution it. But, let's say we get a stop gap like Peterson and a huge asset, then I would be down for it.

Oh man, those were terrible years.  I think the saving grace here is that we have arguably the best goalie coach in the NHL.  We SHOULD be able to develop a good goalie.  Just not sure about an elite one.  Goaltending is vital to a championship calibre team, so we better have a plan in place.

Only way we would be trading Demko is if we have a blue chip goalie like Wallstedt coming back

That or we know we can sign the next big Russian goalie.

Or perhaps we're ready to draft one of the top ranked goalies in this year's draft.  Demko would probably be able to bring back another 1st round pick this year.  We'd have 3 of them and at least one 2nd to work with (assuming Schenn or Boeser don't bring more 2nds)

not rebuilding

Well....just put Ilya M on ice.   Playing 2nd string goalie when there are loads of NHL options on year to year do back-up, and 3rd stringer.   PK is tragic.   Fix those two things and we aren't so bad.   This is moving into tank this year territory.   Already moved into that.   What happens next could also mean next year as well.   We could be rebuilding soon Stawns.    Personally i'm fine with that - as long as they are  committed to one of those paths.   At this point a one year stealth tank seems to be the tactic,   Demko - might be done and they know it.    His cap hit is fine.    Great actually for a number one who wins games on his own.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they draft another goalie but that won’t allow them to trade Demko. That prospect would be 4 or 5 years away from even being a backup.

Any trade would have to bring back a goalie farther along in their development.

The Kings will want Schenn

(Reading between the lines) it sounds like Demko may not be super stoked on how his situation was handled either!!!

What lines are these? Any specific report of him and his injury that hint at this?

Farnham Lalji, not that I would seriously use that hack as a source, claims that people “close to the situation” think Demko wants out.

Friedman thinks that Buffalo is a good fit.

If that’s the case it would have to be UPL and Ostlund coming back.

I was largely joking/speculating but there was (somewhat credible) twitter speculation today that Demko is unhappy in Van and may want out.  I believe Farhan was tweeting about it.  I'm not sure if those tweets made it to this thread but they were on HFBoards when I went there a few hours ago.

I think Demko is absolutely on the market. He still has high value and could net the club a good return.

Contrary or an aside to media or analysts thoughts on Silovs, the Canucks are extremely high on him. Vancouver does not see him maybe being a back up. They think they have something with Silovs.

Koskenvuo has potential and is still extremely young as well out if Finland.

Any potential trade for Demko does NOT mean a goaltender has to be coming back.

Los Angeles could he a good fit but they are not in cap hell and are not going to pay to move off Petersen.

Buffalo could be a fit as could several teams.

Sure, but what was said that hints that he's not happy with how his situation was handled?
