[Rumour] Canucks getting calls on Thatcher Demko

Makes little sense to trade Demko now when his value is at an all time low.  Teams are probably offering a 2nd and a b tier prospect at best.  We should give Demko a chance to regain form next year and re-evaluate.

They should trade him now. By the time this team becomes remotely competitive, demko will be on the decline with only a few good years left.

Schneider was more established. Didn’t have the extensive injury history, and wasn’t coming off a season where he posted a sub .900 save percentage.  I don’t really think they’re comparable at all

Demko vs Schneider (at time of trade)

27 years old vs 27 years old

151 nhl games vs 98 nhl games

most games played in a season

64 vs 33

career stats < career stats

playing for a bottom feeder vs playing for a contending/president trophy team

And you can’t call 15 games a season, come on

Not against trading Demko, just not a fan of selling low on a proven commodity. We have seen enough of Demko to know what he is capable of, he can definitely boost his value by next year then we can get a better return.

The bottom line is Schneider was coming off an excellent season.  Demko started the season playing terribly and has missed 7 weeks since then (with no firm timeline in his return).  The injury status alone probably makes him unmovable at the moment. Then consider his injury history, including concussions and double hip surgery.  Red flags o plenty

So then why are teams callings according to this thread sources?

Pull a Schneider and get a top 10 pick for him please. Let's do this! Tear it down.

As much as I love lil Huggy bear and he is a great player. Building your D around a rover is not how to build a D corps unless we a re inventing the wheel Hughes needs to be our 3/4 guy behind a top pairing like Edvinsson Sieder.

Pete is great but much like Datsyuk we need a Helm, McCarthy to step in so he can shine

Doesn't have to be now, but good chance he's gone by next season.  The only ones they'd have to act on by the tdl is Miller and schenn.......any other trade can be done any time

I’m okay trading demko I am concerned about his injuries and if he’s a fit for our high pressure msrket.

but I’m also a huge fan, and we really took the time developing him.

Where are all the people screaming for a rebuild?  If you want to build a great team you kind of have to stink for 2 or 3 years, draft well and get lucky with a few good trades.

I think Demko is a fantastic goaltender and he's a rare commodity... but... he is WAY too good to allow a rebuild/retool/reboot/retread/restart/revamp/rewhatever.  As long as Demko plays well for the Canucks it prevents the neccesary bottoming out.

Trading both Horvat and Demko would be a 5D chess, elite level stealth tank.

Honesty I think we should be doing this! Our rebuild years never really got low enough because Markstrom was so good for us. Always kept us in that 5-10 pick range. I don’t know if this management group can build a good enough d group before Demko is off his cheap deal. Dealing Demko means minimal goalie stealing us games we shouldn’t be winning.

Are we just trying to get rid of players for the sake of getting rid of players!? We have sh!t for G prospects, Who's going to replace him?

Someones going to give us their number 1 goalie?? Let that man heal and be back next season. Take it from there, If he still sucks then hey, Time to move on.

Jeff Marek mentioned Columbus as a team with interest in Demko. If they do value him highly and Demko wants out I wonder about a Merzlikins + swap . They have some good young defense we could target like Boqvist, Peeke, and Bean. I'd make that deal maybe with the hope Ian Clark bring Merzlikins back to form and help mentor Silovs. My valuation could be way off but the money makes sense and an educated risk if Clark believes in his goalie from the past.

I could see a hockey deal with Columbus,.

I wonder if we could pull Ceulemans. I think it is a realistic target. And I really like him.

As much as I like Silovs I think he needs another full year in AHL a the minimum after this season.

We would probably bargain hunt goalies in the summer if trading Demko.

I'd love to get Ceulemans from them. We would have to take some cap back if we dealt them Demko so thats what I was thinking with Merzlikins. He may have fallen out of favor there but Clark's worked with him before and knows him well so if they pay ++ for Demko I'd be open to that deal especially if Ceulmans coming back.

I would be very happy with that.

Wow. Delusional.

That's actually a ton of value for Demko who is right near the bottom in almost every goalie statistic this year. Nemec was a 2nd overall pick and projects as a top pair RHD, why is that delusional?

If we're trading Demko this is officially a full rebuild because we're tanking hard and not winning anything for the next 3 years.

Keep him around and we've got a stab at the playoffs next year.

I've got a sneaky feeling management are doing a stealth tank which I'm all on board for, but even then it'd be nice to keep Demko around until we have at least a young goalie getting groomed (Silovos is way off here).
