[Rumour] Canucks getting calls on Thatcher Demko

That's actually a ton of value for Demko who is right near the bottom in almost every goalie statistic this year. Nemec was a 2nd overall pick and projects as a top pair RHD, why is that delusional?

Because Demko isn’t remotely worth that much.

It is too much for Demko, goalies are rarely if ever are traded for anything close to that value.

I made a post in the proposals forum, but I'll post here too to discuss...

To BUF:

Demko

Schenn

To VAN:

Levi

Jokiharju

2nd (VGK)

Or they keep Levi since it sounds like they won't be able to sign Erik Portillo. We can try snag him for free.

If Demko is really moving it is either because we think we can get value, we want to tank, or aren’t confident that he is going to rebound to full health.

I can’t see a full tank and rebuild as that makes zero sense when you have just signed Miller and want to convince Petterson to stay.

It has been a long time in this market that we have had to deal with crappy goaltending.  I think people forget how bad and frustrating it is to do everything  else right but have a couple bad goals a game go in.

We already suck at D, Let's trade Demko and create another weakness.

Tank baby tank.

If there are any years ti tank it is this season and the next.

Two local kids at the top of the draft between these two years.

There’s no goalie in the pipeline capable of being #1.  Maybe Silovs??  So would need a top goalie prospect before trading out Demko.

Are we just trying to get rid of players for the sake of getting rid of players!? We have sh!t for G prospects, Who's going to replace him?

Someones going to give us their number 1 goalie?? Let that man heal and be back next season. Take it from there, If he still sucks then hey, Time to move on.

If we're trading Demko this is officially a full rebuild because we're tanking hard and not winning anything for the next 3 years.

Keep him around and we've got a stab at the playoffs next year.

I've got a sneaky feeling management are doing a stealth tank which I'm all on board for, but even then it'd be nice to keep Demko around until we have at least a young goalie getting groomed (Silovos is way off here).

And if Demko wants out? What then? You gonna hold on to a player who doesn't want to be here?

It's absolutely a possibility, like Bo all he's really done here is lose too. After yesterday this is looking more like a rebuild.

I think Bo would be happy to stay if management squeezed him in cap wise.

If Demko wants out then surely Petey and Hughes aren't far off

To increase our chances at Bedard, I’m all in. I’d hate to see Demko go for multiple reasons, but when we’re in the mix for a local generational superstar, we gotta.

If they trade him they have to know what the plan is, the guys we have are good backups only, stating the obvious. They have to know who they're bringing in.

I'm not sure how that would increase our chances, I don't see him coming back anytime soon..Even if, If I was the GM I'd tell him to take the rest of the season off and properly recover and come back in form next season. Not like we are going anywhere fast.

I do agree that if management had upped their offer there's a good chance he may have taken it.

I'm not sure Demko leaving means anything for Pettersson or Hughes though. Hughes is locked in for a while yet and Pettersson's a soon to be pending RFA. Different points in their career, Demko will be 28 in December, top goaltenders age better, sure, but he's only go so much prime left. And career left.

Ain't apples to apples.

Agreed, they'd need a contingency plan. Likely a stopgap tender at the very least. Could look into Andersen or Raanta come UFA.

That's a pure hypothetical which could be said for virtually any player.

Absolutely, but at the same time it'd be easy for management to come out and shut down publicly. Teams calling doesn't mean they're shopping him, or that he's asked for a trade. But yeah, it's possible.

Will management let rumours smolder to potentially generate offers or will they shut it down? Speculation won't dissipate til after the deadline.

I wouldn't be surprised if management let's rumors swirl, Seems like they quite enjoy them.

Allvin was a little cagey when asked about Demko after the Columbus game. He started saying the All Star Break would be good for players to get rest, then landed on 3 weeks as when he expected Demko to return.

Wonder what’s going on there, as he seemed to be biding time with that response, could just be related to the injury, but who knows
