Cizikas won't give up his number to Bo? Lol. I thought the number 53 had significance to Bo. Or am I confusing him with someone else?

i think that was 35, but that wasn't available at the London Knights, so that's how he got 53 and stuck with it ever since. I could be wrong though.

If they don't really perform in the next 5 weeks and they are unsuccessful in signing Horvat long-term, don't be surprised if they flip him with even more retained, at the deadline.

So they suck and we get their 2024 unprotected 1st.... then they trade Bo for futures and become an even worse team...Plotting The Simpsons GIF

Absolutely.  When I look at Bailey, Bazar and Wahstrom  #s, I get the impression that the Islanders aren't very

good at developing young, offensive players.  They shine at developing defensive players.

I'm interested in seeing what Beau can do in the top 6 on an offensive team like the Canucks.

In what context did you mean that ? :bigblush:

None of that really matters if Brock and Miller play well and we don't have to sell low on them. I don't see any fit here with Beauvillier, I'd move him too.

To be honest, Beau sounds like a slightly bigger version of Garland.

If anything, it might make Garly available.

Oh yeah that's it. I thought I remembered he did it for some specific reason.

well yes, 35 does have a story:

Quote

Horvat and Jenkins, a goaltender, were both picked by the London Knights in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection ninth and 29th overall respectively.

Just weeks after being drafted, Jenkins was tragically killed after he fell out from the back of a pickup truck. He was 15 years old.

Horvat wears number 53, which is an inverse of Jenkins’s number 35 that he wore as a goaltender, in memory.

“I’m sure we would have been great friends if he was here,” Horvat told Friedman. “To switch my number around kind of in memory of him was something special to me and to his family.

“For me to kind of represent him so to speak  really shows my appreciation for him as a goaltender.”

Horvat says the Jenkins family were not aware initially why he picked 53.

“I don’t they think they knew,” he said. “When I told them why I picked 53 and why I did it, I think it meant a lot to them and I think they really appreciate it.”

Knights head coach Dale Hunter added, “Definitely getting the number [shows] how much character Bo has and how much he cares about his teammates.”

I get the sense that he is also faster, which is very important for that type of agitator, high energy, secondary scoring type role.

Everyone's already on the "well half our team has negative value and sucks so this guy must as well!" In regards to AB. He's nothing special but give the guy a chance. Most don't understand how useless boeser really is and it's not fair to comp him that way imo!

We should be embracing the fact we can drive his value and flip him next TDL. We do NOT want to be good over at least this and next season. They ain't lying when they say we cannot handle a rebuild as half our market is proving they can't handle the idea of NOT signing another guy to a massive retirement deal haha

Garland plays a better game offensively, but Beau plays the better defensive game, but they seem to

play a similar style. The team has an overabundance of RWs; especially when you consider that Podz

will be on the team next season and Klim maybe the following season.

Beau can slide into the 3rd LW and immediately improve the 3rd line.

All-in-all this was probably a pretty fair return for Horvat. I'm excited about Räty's potential and if the pick is in the 13-17 range that could be a great pick for us.

I am definitely confused as to why NYI did it though with where they're at in the standings unless they're confident he will re-sign. Bo likely elevates them to a playoff team but not a contender unless it's a Cinderella run.

If the Islanders do decide to re-sign Horvat they likely have to let Scott Mayfield go in the off-season. Mayfield could be a fantastic stop-gap partner for Hughes and might be able to be had for something like 3x3.

In Van City that would be cause for a lot of drama. In NYC, not so much.
Interesting to see how that plays out.

Good luck on Long Island Bo.
