[Trade] Canucks trade Bo Horvat to Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, 2023 1st-round draft pick

People keep talking about Bo getting injured and costing us the trade, he's lost like 30-40 games to injury in the last 9 years. Chances of him having a season ending injury were pretty low but I get the panic.

If he did cop a nasty injury though I wonder if we could have negotiated a much cheaper deal, surely he'd be forced to take Allvin's initial offer (it was probably around 7.5M)?

My house has never burnt down or flooded either with low risk, but i keep buying insurance because that risk is real

We got a great deal for a guy we only have control of for 2 months and we won't pay $9 million to keep the same losing team and atmosphere

Change was needed, we should embrace it, instead of wanting things to remain as they were

To me, this is not a sign of a leader. Leadership often comes out when the going gets tough. You know what you get.

We know what we have in Miller when the going gets tough. He pouts, and he gets lazy defensively.

This trade makes me think back to the draft.

Remember it was reported that a deal was done with the Islanders and that it involved Miller? Gotta wonder if a very similar package was involved in that offer.

Was this just a continuation of those negotiations with Miller swapped out for Horvat?

Im thinking Allvin might have been after Raty for awhile now.

Problem being he'd walk straight into free agency.

We simply can not afford to let assets walk. Happened during Bennings watch (ran out of time)...

If Isles flip him and get a better deal, then good for them, but this is still better than keeping him until end off season.

It was always going to be him or Miller....

Changes are needed...

Yea I can see it. He did mention the returns on the trade feeling like taking back three 1st round caliber assets (that is...a take) so he must have had Raty very high on his list.

Boeser has been given every opportunity to score goals.  Playing with Petey, taking Kuzmenko's spot on the PP.  Rather than scoring goals, he is piling up secondary assists.  Also, his goals are mostly tap ins.  Meanwhile, Kuzmenko keeps piling up goals and driving play even on the 3rd line.

Very accurate summary of Boeser.   He should have been traded last year and never resigned.    We should still be able to get something for him in a trade but for him and the best interest of the team, he needs to go and a fresh start somehwhere else because in just ain't happening here.  maybe some fresh scenery somewhere elase will jolt him out of his funk.

Didn’t realize Bo’s agent represents a lot of Isles players.

Pat Morris represents Bailey, Cizakas, Martin, and Clutterbuck.

Wouldn’t be surprised if that factored in for Lou. Clearly he’s done a lot of business with Bo’s agent. Should help in negotiations.

I don't think any of this matters, as Bo has made it clear he wants to play for a consistent playoff team. The Isle are not that right now, and their outlook is even worse. Unless they try to pay Bo $9m and he decides money is more important than winning, I just don't see him signing anything long term with them.

Miller for Captain 100%

It’s a huge distraction for any one else..

Miller handles the press well.

Making EP or Hughes Captain now will mess up their game.. they’re  kids in comparison.

and I’ll add this ,  making Bo Captain when he did was too early in his career.. I think he would have developed into a total different and better player had Gillis been able to get Shane Doan here for that “captaincy experience” with Bo.

“Captain Canada “ had the same qualities as our very own “  Captain Canuck”  ( Smyl ) had.

And Ehrhoff thought Buffalo was his best place to win.

Players say that all the time. I’m sure old Lou can convince him that they’re close. Offering him 8 mil a season should help in that convincing.

Miller is a complete hockey player? LOL.

I know you're not joking, but wish you were.

Miller has defensive defencies in his game. He's not a 200 feet player, which means he ain't a "complete player". c'mon now.

No No No GIF

Neither was Bure. Not all forwards have to be a Ryan freaking Kesler.

He has the ability to back check and has demonstrated this, it’s just not one his biggest strengths this year. There aren’t that many of them on this team by the way. Not even Bo, our former captain, did that on a regular basis.

This is mostly a coaching and systems issue.

When we see posters like you and @Coconuts @stawns who hate the guy make comments, it’s based on an over dramatization and self fulfilling prophecy to reinforce the bias you guys have against him.

Pick any player who you see do a giveaway or fail on a back check and you guys forget about it after. If it’s Miller, then it’s like oh my god Ossam Bin Laden is back on the ice and just blew the team up again.

It’s getting so tiresome.

Possibly, but I'll lose even more respect for Bo if he signs with them for less than what he was asking from us.

Why do you keep trying to defend him?  He's scored 9 goals, can't skate, can't kill penalties, and is not even on our first unit PP.  But he's getting paid $6.65 million.  He can't be traded so his agent has to get involved to try and pump his tires to find a trade partner.

It's quite strange how some need to defend this guy until the end...

You forgot to mention that he has the 3rd worst +/- record on the team at Minus -13 which also puts him tied as 53rd worst +/- player in the entire National Hockey League out of all 857 skaters.    That's certainly nothing to write home about and one of the reason he's so hard to get rid of - being the liability he is.

Also, he's never been able to play a full 82 game season - not even close !

Maybe it was always BO that was going to be dealt and Lou pulled the plug at the draft but went through with it now...

If this team rebuilt right after the twins left people here would have way more respect for No as our captain.

I think the owners and who they hired never gave Bo a good team to lead.

Saying that he did a great job with the team he was dealt.

I will miss Bo and will always see him as a goid leader and person.

I think Bo was a great team mate and person, not necessarily a "great" captain. That's just speculation of course, but I don't get the feeling he was necessarily meant to be one.

Not sure about a GREAT team mate, You stand up for your team mates when attacked in front of you, so I won't go that far, but he probably is a great or good person on speculation
