[Trade] Canucks trade Bo Horvat to Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, 2023 1st-round draft pick

Not an amazing trade for Van and not terrible either. In the end I'm glad they made a decision and did it.

Obviously the Isle get the best player in the trade and all the best to Bo.

Will be hard to fully judge the trade though until some time passes. When Bo signs (wherever) if it is around 7.5 million or higher for 7 years then I think that'll be good for Van since that contract may not hold up (similar to Miller). Then of course Raty and the 1st is still awhile until we know if they'll pan out at all in the NHL. Beauvillier is so so to me. Maybe a new team helps him take a step. Mostly looks to be cap out.

Saying Millers contract "May not hold up", is being awful polite.    I predict it will become an "albatross" contract in the next 3-4 years. well before it expires - which is way out in the next decade of the 2030's when he's approaching 40 y.o.   Millers contract will undoubtedly become one (if not "The") worst contract in Canucks history.

I was expecting this:

Report from Elliott Friedman.  Bo Horvat is officially on the Market.  Canucks will trade him to the highest bidder.  They will take the best package available.  They are willing to take back salary to facilitate the trade.  Currently there are 12 teams interested in him and _____ are considered to be the front runners....

So Friedman knows all?

Obviously there'd be more than the Islanders, but what's being offered is pure speculation.

Bo is a known commodity. If a team really wanted to step up by now, they would of. Canucks could if held back 50 percent of salary which would of fit him in near everywhere. Again, any top team would be offering a late first. A mid first is way more than I imagined in a deep draft.

Gotta wonder if they’re just planning on building a D core like they had in Pittsburgh.

One high end guy in Letang, and then a bunch of decent but not great guys. Guys that don’t do any one thing really well but are just solid.

I could see us going hard after NCAA D men, and then maybe trading for some undervalued type guys.

Based on their moves to keep adding cap to the forwards I would say that’s the route they plan to go.

Now if only we would have kept our pick (Guenther) and not traded for OEL.

Damn.

If we did that, we would probably have Horvat still so no trade. Also, everyone assumes we would've picked Guenther but previous management probably would've picked some other player like Bolduc.

Im super curious what:

Horvat-Barzal looks like.

They could honestly be monsters at evens together and locked up long term together.

On Paper it SOUNDS perfect. Playmaking RHC moved to Wing to play with a better LHC thats better on draws that happens to be shoot first and they both are fast skaters.

We will see,

His being here is not just about points.

Its about having someone passionate, willing to install a combative , emotional energy in his game for others younger than him to play as hard as they can in their own style.

How do you follow quiet leadership ?

.. with apprehensions.

How do you follow a fiery leadership?

.. all guns blazing.

Not sure who’s traded next, but this should be an interesting deadline. Guessing some moves will happen in the off-season.

hope the media keeps asking JRPA about their vision / identity they want to build

We’re definitely getting younger, and I’ve heard them say we want to be “a tough team to play against.” Figure that’s why Myers dummied Beniers. :picard:

The fact that Bo wasn't allowed to talk extension may have boosted his value. If he wants too much, he prices himself out of the market for some teams. That's why JR didn't allow it.

Wasn’t there a short period that he was allowed and then Canucks mngmt changed their minds ?

Thinking this is the plan.

Hoping we signing Livingstone at least.

Maybe 1 UFA signing and/or a value trade find along the way.

But we will see. Id really like to acquire Corson Ceulemans from CLB I really like him.

Bo is going to get nailed,  hard ,  in the East on a nightly basis.

I do and we will see if other comparable players get considerably more return.  I've seen some pretty big deadline packages.

The fact that Bo wasn't permitted to talk extensions with other teams also likely limited his market.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the Islanders flipped him for a higher return if their posteason fortunes don't improve and he isn't open to resigning.

If the Islanders do try flipping Bo at the deadline than thats great news for us. Could they get more in return than we did, no! because if the Islanders turn into sellers we most certainly have their lottery pick in 2024. That roster is not built for the long term and if they fail this season, next season does not get better. What could NYI's possibly get thats better than a top prospect, a lottery pick and a roster player (call him a cap dump if you want but he is a serviceable 2-3 line winger).

If your happy then good!  I'm not here to shit all over management on this one.... they shot their shot and it may work out.  The pick could be a 2024 top 5 - that would be amazing!

I'm just saying I think historcially this team has been objectively poor at asset management and I can't say I agree with how this trade was handled in the media.

I've seen a lot of good players get traded at the deadline and often other teams take a dfiferent approach to the one the Canucks did.

Happy or not isn't the point. It's just that to say they should of held out for more seems so hypothetical. It could just as easily blow up in their face or the player gets injured and you get zero.
