[Trade] Canucks trade Bo Horvat to Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, 2023 1st-round draft pick

Recommended Posts

I like beauvillier's speed and appears to have good hands. Let's give him the rest of the season before we say he's a cap dump. I see some potential here. 20 goal 50 PT winger.

No doubt he was part of the trade to make the cap hits match, since its dollar in dollar out right now.. But to say he's a cap dumb is a bit of a stretch

To me, this is not a sign of a leader. Leadership often comes out when the going gets tough. You know what you get.

We know what we have in Miller when the going gets tough. He pouts, and he gets lazy defensively.

Really?

Like last year when the going got REALLY tough but he managed to drag the team along and get 99 points in an abysmal situation.

Selectively watching Miller is what you're doing. Ignore the good stuff because once in awhile he wears his heart on his sleeve. He's all in and that's important. You want players who care, not players who are indifferent.

I actually feel bad for Bo here. If I were him, I’d only sign for 5 years. Take the 8.5 over 5. Then at 32-33, I’d go looking to sign cheap contracts with contenders to get my cup…kind of like Hossa did. I don’t know, money’s great, but the glory has got to be even better…

Bo would be a fool to sign with the Islanders.  They are a team that is aging out and should be heading

into a rebuild.  He will never win a SC with them.  I hope he goes to UFA and signs with a real contender;

even if he has to take less $ than what the NYI offer.

Beuvillier has always said to have a lot of potential. Building strength was his biggest knock as a prospect. Hes had time to do that and is now much stronger and capable to play in the NHL. I think his best years are ahead of him. Last season Bauviller had 34 points in 75 games. At the same time in their careers Horvat and Miller each had around 55 points. Under a new coach and with top 6 minutes on the Cancuks I dont see why next season wont be a big improvement for him.

I would be all over moving Connor Garland to a contender like Vegas for RW Phil Kessel (35 years old) and RD prospect Kaedan Korczak

i thought Garland or Boeser was going to NYI for their 1st pick in either 2023 0r 2024 ?  (We then get there next two 1st round picks):rolleyes::bigblush:

Like Calgary, they can be Canuck east

Nice highlight package. Recommend watching. Great shot, really good speed, tough around the net, gritty, great backhand goals as well. New favorite player lol.

Kinda reminds me of young Alex Burrows, speedy grinder with good hands around the net, decent shot.

You have to think that management were not going to make another Miller mistake in turning down what was on the table when they had a chance.  People will say they had to get this deal right, but honestly, it's more like they couldn't get it wrong.  If Bo walked or ended up signing for a monster contract, that would have been much worse than the insurance they took yesterday.  I think they could have got more, but probably not a lot more given that he's having a career year and he's on an expiring contract.

I'll admit that I'm not as big a fan as some other posters here. And I didn't discount his 99 points. He's very good offensively, but he's no 200 foot player. Petey is that guy, Miller is not. He gives up on the backcheck (unless you've selectively chosen to ignore that part of his game), and he's poor defensively. He wants to play centre, but because he's so bad and unreliable defensively, he sucks there. There's a reason for why he's on the wing, and he's had success there. I don't know how many of his 99 points was playing centre or wing last season, but how is it that he's dropped offensively and remains the same defensively this season

I still stand by the position and stance that this signing of Miller to 7 years, won't age very well. If he's already declining in his defensive game, that doesn't bode well for the next 3-5 years, let alone the entirety of his newly signed contract. Management would be wise to get rid of JT when they're able to, before they're really stuck with his contract once his new deal kicks in.

I'm not saying that Miller is a bad player. He's obviously not. But his stick smashing, on-ice antics are annoying to say the least. It's like watching a grown ass man who is emotionally a child. Can't seem to control his temper and his emotional mood swings reminds me of a teenager working through their hormones.

Curious why Allvin mentions Petey and Hughes as possible leaders on the team, but not their newly signed player in JT?

Love how if this trade was in the proposals section it would have been panned so hard but come in here and most everyone is rainbows and tiddlywinks

What's so bad about it? That we didn't get a rhd? Or that Raty isn't good enough? Or Anthony is not good enough?

The first is probably as high a pick they can get

Arguably a fair trade if you consider Bo was on an expiring contract and hence a rental.  The trade also greases the tank wheels...No Bo, No Mikheyev....better chance of strengthening the first round pick the Canucks own.

That said...

My question is why didnt management allow teams to negotiate a contract with Bo's camp as part of the trade process.  Bo locked up for 7 years probably gets you a better return than Bo as a rental.

Some one posted a chart a few pages back showing Miller is better than Bo defensively.  So we kept the 80 point guy over the 60 point guy.  And both are similar defensively.

Maybe teams like the Islanders talk to Bo before the trade and realize they can’t sign him, so the market shrinks?
